Brendan Aquilina
Brendan Aquilina (born 23 September 1987) is a Maltese international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Outdoors He was born in Wollongong, Australia and started bowling at the Jamberoo Bowling Club in New South Wales. He represented Malta in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He was selected as part of the Maltese team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland where he reached the semi-finals of the Pairs with Shaun Parnis. In 2019 he won the pairs bronze medal with Mark Malogorski at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and in 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. Australian National Bowls Championships
The Australian National Bowls Championships and the Australian Open are organised by Bowls Australia. Bowls dates back to 1845 in Australia but it was not until 1910, during the 1910 Carnival of bowls that South Australia proposed the formation of the Australian Bowling Council (consisting of the six states) which duly formed the following year in 1911. The first National Singles Championships were held in 1913, with each state holding the Championships in turn. The Championships were also known as the Carnival at one stage. The Championships were not held for a twelve year period from 2005 until 2016 when the Australian Open effectively replaced the National Championships. They returned in 2017 at the Club Sapphire Merimbula. Corey Wedlock (born 15 June 1996) is an international Australian lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Corey made his international debut in 2017 and has twice won the pairs with Nathan Pedersen at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic in 2015 and 2016. In 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. In 2021, Wedlock won the delayed triples title with Gary Kelly and Brendan Aquilina at the delayed Australian National Bowls Championships. Gary Kelly (born 10 May 1989) is an Australian based Northern Irish international indoor and lawn bowler. Bowls career Outdoors He won a bronze medal in the Men's singles at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2011 he won the pairs silver medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and in 2015 he won the pairs gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. He won a silver medal for a combined Irish team with bowls pairs partner Ian McClure in the pairs at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. In 2018 he was selected as part of the Northern Ireland team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland and in 2020 he was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia. 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship
The 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was to be the 14th edition of the World Championships to be held at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, Musgrave Hill Bowls Club and Club Helensvale on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. There were to be eight events that determined the 2021 world champions, the men's singles, doubles, triples and fours and the women's singles, doubles, triples and fours and in addition there are two overall team winners who receive the Leonard and Taylor trophies respectively. It was originally scheduled from 23 May to 7 June 2020 but the event was officially cancelled on 9 March 2021. Postponement The event followed suit of other sporting events around the world in early 2020, with the outbreak of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak wreaking havoc across the sporting industry.
