Brenda Joyce (author)
Brenda Joyce (born c. 1963, New York State) is an American author of romance novels as Brenda Joyce. She also signed a novel as B.D. Joyce. Biography Brenda Joyce, a native of New York, wrote her first novella when she was sixteen , and finished her first novel at twenty-five. She sold her novel quickly, and since that first publication in 1988 she has published thirty-four novels. Her first novel, ''Innocent Fire'', won the Best Western Romance award from the Romance Writers of America. She has also been awarded the Best Historical Romance Award and Romantic Times' Lifetime Achievement Award. There are currently eleven million copies of her novels in print in 12 countries. A romance novel or romantic novel generally refers to a type of genre fiction novel which places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and usually has an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending." Precursors include authors of literary fiction, such as Samuel Richardson, Jane Austen, and Charlotte Brontë. There are many subgenres of the romance novel, including fantasy, gothic, contemporary, historical romance, paranormal fiction, and science fiction. Romance Writers of America (RWA) is an American non-profit writers' association founded in 1980. Its mission is to "advance the professional and common business interests of career-focused romance writers through networking and advocacy and by increasing public awareness of the romance genre." Relevant works must be themed around the development of a romantic relationship between two people, and there must be a happy ending. As well as published authors, those with complete but unpublished manuscripts are eligible for membership. Organization Authors are eligible to join the RWA if they are actively pursuing a career writing romance novels.
