Brazos Bend, Texas
Stockton Bend is a city in Hood County, Texas, United States. It was incorporated in May 2004 originally as "Brazos Bend", and is located along the main stem of the Brazos River. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 380. The city is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name was recently changed to "Stockton Bend". Geography The city is in northeast-central Hood County, on both sides of the Brazos River where it is impounded as Lake Granbury. There is no bridge within the city limits connecting the two parts of the city. The majority of the city is on the west side of the river, occupying the inside of the Stockton Bend river attribute. The city is northeast of Granbury, the Hood county seat. Granbury Independent School District
Granbury Independent School District is a public school district based in Granbury, Texas (USA). In addition to Granbury, the district serves the eastern Hood County cities of DeCordova and Stockton Bend (formerly Brazos Bend), and the majority of Cresson. The district boundary also includes the unincorporated communities of Canyon Creek, Oak Trail Shores, and Pecan Plantation. Small portions of Parker, Johnson, and Somervell counties also lie within the district. In 2009, the school district was rated " recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. Lake Granbury
Lake Granbury is a North Texas reservoir near Granbury, Texas. It was created in 1969 and is one of three lakes damming the Brazos River. Lake Granbury is contained by the De Cordova Bend Dam and is a long, narrow lake, encompassed by 103 miles (221 km) of shoreline. The lake is controlled by the Brazos River Authority in Granbury. History The lake was first proposed in the late 1950s. Construction began on the Cordova Bend Dam on December 15, 1966 by the Zachry Construction Company. Granbury Micropolitan Area
The Granbury micropolitan statistical area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, was an area consisting of two counties in North Central Texas, anchored by the city of Granbury. In 2013, though, the Office of Management and Budget reclassified the area as a part of the Fort Worth-Arlington metropolititan division within the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. As of the 2000 census, the area had a population of 47,909 (a July 1, 2009, estimate placed the population at 59,493). Granbury is a city in and the county seat of Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 10,958, and it is the principal city of the Granbury micropolitan statistical area. Granbury is named after Confederate General Hiram B. Granbury. Granbury started as a square and log cabin courthouse. Many buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts "Broadway" productions. The city's name originated from Confederate General Hiram B. Granberry. To explain why the city name is spelled differently, some scholars believe the name Granberry was misread on a document.
