Brampton Municipal Election, 2006
The Brampton municipal election, 2006 took place on 13 November 2006, to elect a mayor, five regional councillors and five Brampton City Council, city councillors in the city of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It was held in conjunction with all other municipalities in Ontario. See 2006 Ontario municipal elections. It was referred to as CityVote 2006 by the City's website. The nomination period ended on Friday 29 September 2006; thirty candidates registered in the two weeks prior. Six candidates withdrew after this point, before the cut-off of 5 pm Monday. There was a total of 96 candidates running for political office. Over the various days of voting, 68,186 Brampton residents cast ballots; there were 226,869 registered voters in the city at the time. This means there was a 30.8% turn-out. Khalid Alvi
Khalid Alvi also known as Khalid Mustafa Alvi is a professor at the University of Delhi, critic, and Urdu poet. He has written twelve books and edited the English journal ''Furtherance'' and the Urdu monthly ''Shahkaar''. Some of his works have been translated into German, Persian and Uzbek Languages. Bob Callahan
Robert V. Callahan (April 11, 1937–December 26, 2020) is a former politician from Ontario, Canada. He served as a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1985 to 1995 representing the ridings of Brampton and Brampton South. From 1969 to 1985, and from 1997 to 2014 he served as a Brampton city councillor. Background Callahan was born and raised in South Bronx, New York City. His family left for Canada when he was 17. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. Kenneth Gilmour 'Ken' Whillans (8 August 1927 – 24 August 1990) served as Mayor of the City of Brampton from 1982 to 1990. Personal life and family Whillans was born in Ottawa.
