''Brain, Behavior and Evolution'' is a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering evolutionary neurobiology. It was established in 1968 with Walter Riss as the founding editor-in-chief; he remained the editor until 1986. Subsequent editors included Glenn Northcutt (1986–98) and Walter Wilczynski (1999–2009). The current editor-in-chief is Georg F. Striedter (University of California, Irvine). Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Evolutionary biology is the subfield of biology that studies the evolutionary processes (natural selection, common descent, speciation) that produced the diversity of life on Earth. It is also defined as the study of the history of life forms on Earth. Evolution is based on the theory that all species are related and they gradually change over time. In a population, the genetic variations affect the physical characteristics i.e. phenotypes of an organism. These changes in the phenotypes will be an advantage to some organisms, which will then be passed onto their offspring. Walter Wilczynski
Walter Wilczynski (September 18, 1952, in Trenton, New Jersey – June 9, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia) was an American ethologist, neuroscientist, and professor at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, Georgia. Early life and education Wilczynski was born in Trenton, New Jersey. He received his bachelor's degree in both biology and psychology from Lehigh University in 1974, after which he received his Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 1978. He then completed his postdoc at the Section of Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University, where he worked in the lab of Robert Capranica.
