''Boyfriend'' is the third solo studio album by English singer Boy George, released in April 1989 by Virgin Records, just six months after his previous album, '' Tense Nervous Headache'', which Virgin Records decided to not release in the United Kingdom, due to its lead-single "Don't Cry" performing poorly. Boy George
George Alan O'Dowd (born 14 June 1961), known professionally as Boy George, is an English singer, songwriter, DJ, author and mixed media artist. Best known for his soulful voice and his androgynous appearance, Boy George has been the lead singer of the pop band Culture Club since the group's formation in 1981. He began his solo career in 1987. Boy George's music is often classified as blue-eyed soul, which is influenced by rhythm and blues and reggae. Boy George grew up in Eltham and was part of the New Romantic movement which emerged in the late 1970s to early 1980s. His look and style of fashion was greatly inspired by glam rock pioneers David Bowie and Marc Bolan. He formed the Culture Club with Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss in 1981. Mike Pela (13 January 1950 – 23 July 2022) was a British record producer and mixer. He worked with various artists including Sade, Maxwell, Savage Garden and others, spanning a wide array of genres. Career Pela started his career in the 1970s working at the CTS / De Lane Lea recording complex in London. He worked on many projects during this time including The Who's ''Tommy'' and the Electric Light Orchestra's ''Eldorado''. He then went into a freelance role where he worked with artists such as Alice Cooper, Stephen Stills, Hawkwind, Nico, and Pete Townshend. In the 1980s he worked out of Robin Millar's Power Plant studios, where he was able to participate in music projects featuring artists such as Boy George, Fine Young Cannibals, Everything but the Girl, Tom Robinson, The Style Council, Gang of Four and Sade. Amanda Villepastour ( (born 20 January 1958) is an Australian ethnomusicologist and former professional musician. She is best known for being the keyboardist of Australian new wave band Eurogliders between 1980 and 1987, and for her 21st-century research work and publications on Yorùbá music in Nigeria, and Afro-Cuban religious (Santería) music in Cuba. Early life and education Villepastour was born in Perth, Western Australia. She attended Methodist Ladies' College, in the Perth suburb of Claremont. Today is an American R&B vocal group formed in 1988. The group comprised Frederick Lee "Bubba" Drakeford, Larry "Chief" Singletary, Wesley "Wes" Adams, and Larry "Love" McCain, childhood friends from Englewood, New Jersey. History The group started in 1984 as The Gents and comprised Drakeford, McCain, William McNeir, Ronald Scruggs, and Bernard Belle. During an anti-drug benefit, the group received a meeting with the producer Teddy Riley who renamed the group Today and melded them into the current lineup. Riley helped them receive a deal with MCA Records. As the head of MCA records urban department, Jheryl Busby, moved into Motown, he brought several acts with him, including Today, The Boys and The Good Girls. While touring the country, the groups were successful. Motown promoted Today as the new Four Tops, and The Boys and The Good Girls were promoted as the new Jackson 5 and new Supremes respectively. Caron Liza Geary (born 15 October 1963 in Paddington, London), known by various stage names, is an English female raggamuffin toaster. She was the first white female reggae/dancehall MC. According to Geary, her first recorded appearance was on a cover of "Kid Ralph", a dancehall track by Little Twitch. The song talks about a "legendary" homosexual figure in Jamaica's prison system. Bernard Belle (November 12, 1964 – June 23, 2022) was an American composer, producer, and musician. After starting his career as an R&B guitarist, Belle became known as a songwriter for Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and a producer of gospel music. Career Belle grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, and performed as a musician while still a student at Dwight Morrow High School. Belle received his first break in the late 1980s.
