Bowen River Hotel
Bowen River Hotel is a heritage-listed hotel at Strathbowen-Leichhardt Range Road, Mount Wyatt, Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built . It is also known as Heidelberg Inn. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Phillip Sommer and his partner John Harvey pioneered the area in 1862. They established a sheep and cattle run on Heidelberg, a selection of ninety five square miles taken up by James Mead in 1861 but never stocked. Sommer had moved to Dotswood Station north of Charters Towers by 1866 and the Bowen River Hotel was operating from his Heidelberg homestead by 1865 with George Burnes as publican. It was constructed on the supply route to Central Western Queensland which passed through the Kennedy District. Licensing information from the Port Denison Times indicates that it was probably one of two hotels built at much the same time in the same area. Mount Wyatt is a mountain and rural locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Mount Wyatt had a population of 51 people. Geography Mount Wyatt is a largely undeveloped and sparsely populated area. There are large areas of mining exploration permits in the southern part of the locality. The Burdekin Dam is on the western boundary of the locality. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. It was also known as the ''Port Denison Times and Kennedy District Advertiser'' and the ''Port Denison Times and Bowen Advocate''. History The newspaper was first published in Bowen on 5 March 1864 until 25 August 1900 as the ''Port Denison Times and Kennedy District Advertiser''. The Bowen River is a river located in North Queensland, Australia. Course and features Formed by the confluence of the Broken River and the Little Bowen River near Tent Hill in the Normanby Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, the Bowen River flows in a north-westerly direction along the base of the range then flows west across Emu Plains and is crossed by the Bowen Developmental Road just north of Havilah. The river then flows north-west again between the Herbert Range and Leichhardt Range then discharges into the Burdekin River, south southeast of . The river descends over its course. The catchment area of the river occupies of which an area of is composed of riverine wetlands. Strathmore Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in Queensland. The station is the largest single pastoral lease in the state. Geography The property is situated approximately north east of Croydon and east of Normanton. Strathmore occupies an area of and is situated between the Staaten and Einasleigh Rivers in the Cape York area. It is capable of carrying over 50,000 head of cattle and is currently running Droughtmaster-Brahman cross breeders. History In 1929 the state owned Strathmore was put up for auction and sold for £25,000 to T. Sanderson of Melbourne. ''Pleiogynium timoriense'', commonly known as the Burdekin plum, sweet plum, tulip plum, or in the Djabugay language guybalum is a medium-sized fruit-bearing tree in the family Anacardiaceae native to Malesia, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
