Bova, Calabria
Bova (Calabrian Greek: , ''Chòra tu Vùa''; Calabrian: ; grc, ὁ Βούας, translit=ó Boúas) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Reggio Calabria in the Italian region Calabria, located about southwest of Catanzaro and about southeast of Reggio. It is one of the Greek-Bovesian speaking villages of Bovesia, one of the two Griko-speaking areas of southern Italy. The village is inscribed into '' I Borghi più belli d'Italia'' list. History Archaeological findings have attested human presence in the area to as early as the Neolithic age; in the pre-Roman age, the area was inhabited by the Ausones. Greek colonists founded a city (known as Delia or Deri) in what is now the borough of San Pasquale. This city followed the events of the wars between the major Greek centres in the area, Reggio, Locri and Syracuse, and was later subjected by the latter. Bova Marina (Calabrian Greek: , ''Jalò tu Vunà''; Calabrian: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria in the Italian region Calabria, located about southwest of Catanzaro and about southeast of Reggio Calabria. Bova Marina borders the following municipalities: Bova, Condofuri, Palizzi. As evidenced by the above Greek place names, Bova Marina is one of the places where the Greek–Calabrian dialect is still spoken, a remnant of the ancient Greek colonization of Magna Graecia (South Italy and Sicily). Main sights In 1983, during excavations for roadwork, the ruins of the Bova Marina Synagogue were discovered. Benjamin William Bova (November 8, 1932November 29, 2020) was an American writer and editor. During a writing career of 60 years, he was the author of more than 120 works of science fact and fiction, an editor of ''Analog Science Fiction and Fact'', for which he won a Hugo Award six times, and an editorial director of '' Omni''; he was also president of both the National Space Society and the Science Fiction Writers of America. Personal life and education Ben Bova was born on November 8, 1932, in Philadelphia. He graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1949.
