Bov Point
Bov Point ( bg, text=нос Бов, italic=yes, ‘Nos Bov’ \'nos 'bov\) is the ice-covered point on the south side of the entrance to Kayak Bay on the east coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. The point is named after the settlement of Bov in Western Bulgaria. Location Bov Point is located at , which is 9.36 km southwest of Mitchell Point, 2.7 km west of Hvarchil Point on Lecointe Island, 3.35 km north-northeast of Momino Point, and 2.7 km east-southeast of Podem Peak whose offshoot forms the point. Kayak Bay
Kayak Bay () is a bay, wide, on the inner (west) side of Pampa Passage, indenting the east coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago in Antarctica north of Momino Point and south of Bov Point. Malpighi Glacier and Mackenzie Glacier flow into the bay. The feature was roughly mapped in 1898 by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition. It was mapped in greater detail by Argentine expeditions from 1947–48 onward and included as part of "Bahia Pampa" (now Pampa Passage). This bay was so named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1986 in reference to the sea canoes of the British Joint Services Expedition that passed through the bay on a circumnavigation of Brabant Island in February 1985. Brabant Island
Brabant Island is the second largest island of the Palmer Archipelago within the British Antarctic Territory, lying between Anvers Island and Liège Island. Brabant Island is long north-south, wide, and rises to in Mount Parry. The interior of the island is occupied by two mountain ranges, Solvay Mountains (Cook Summit, 1590 m) in its southern part and Stribog Mountains (summit Mount Parry) in its central and northern parts. It was named by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition (1897–1899) under Adrien de Gerlache, who named it after the Belgian Province of Brabant, in recognition of the support given to the expedition by its citizens. A paper summarizing the Joint Services expedition of 1984–1985 describes the island as "notoriously inhospitable" and states that there is evidence for only six visits between the discovery in 1898 and 1984. Palmer Archipelago, also known as Antarctic Archipelago, Archipiélago Palmer, Antarktiske Arkipel or Palmer Inseln, is a group of islands off the northwestern coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. It extends from Tower Island in the north to Anvers Island in the south. It is separated by the Gerlache and Bismarck straits from the Antarctic Peninsula and Wilhelm Archipelago, respectively. Mitchell Point (Antarctica)
Mitchell Point () is a point at the southern side of the entrance to Hill Bay on the east coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago of Antarctica. It was photographed by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd in 1956 to 1957, and was mapped from these photos in 1959. The point was named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee for American surgeon Silas W. Hvarchil Point ( bg, нос Хвърчил, ‘Nos Hvarchil’ \'nos hv&r-'chil\) is the ice-covered point forming the southwest extremity of Lecointe Island off the east coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. Lecointe Island
Lecointe Island is an elongated island, long between Cape Kaiser and Hvarchil Point, wide and high, separated from the east coast of Brabant Island by Pampa Passage, in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. The island was first roughly surveyed by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition, 1897–99, which gave the name ''Cape Kaiser'' to its northern extremity. The island was surveyed and photographed by several British expeditions, 1955–58, and was named by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for Georges Lecointe, second-in-command and surveyor of the Belgian expedition which was responsible for the first survey of Gerlache Strait. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.
