Boussouar El Maghnaoui (born 1955 in Maghnia, Algeria) is an Algerian rai singer-songwriter. Biography Born in 1955 in Maghnia ( Tlemcen Province), Algeria. He recounts it in his song "Je T'aime L'Algérie" (''I love you Algeria'') in 1978:''"I love you, I love you, I love you all my life. It is you Algeria, a chance that calls you, in Maghnia I was born, where I have love and friendship. Yes in Tlemcen it is nice, it is the light of my life".'' His first appearance in rai music dates back to 1974. He has worked with several Algerian rai singers throughout the years, including Bellemou Messaoud, Boutaiba Sghir, Brahim Ounassar, Fadila, Groupe el Azhar, and Groupe Gana. Maghnia
Maghnia () (formerly Marnia) is a town in Tlemcen Province, northwestern Algeria. It is the second most populated town in Tlemcen Province, after Tlemcen. The current population is over 200,000. History Archaeologists have found evidence of prehistoric people in the area, who were displaced by the Phoenicians. The remnants of burned Ancient Roman military posts were discovered by the French army in 1836, when they entered the area; these posts were occupied, according to the inscriptions, by the ''numerus Severianus Alexandrinus Syrorum'', a unit of Syrian archers. As such, it was the westernmost outpost of Mauretania Caesariensis. Due to its convenient geographical location—within the watershed of Wadi Tafna on the route to Fes from Tlemcen, Maghnia later served as a marketplace for regional nomads. Raï (, ; ar, راي, Latn, ar, rāʾy, ), sometimes written rai, is a form of Algerian traditional music, folk music that dates back to the 1920s. Singers of Raï are called ''cheb'' (Arabic: شاب) (or ''shabab,'' i.e. young) as opposed to ''sheikh'' (Arabic: شيخ) (''shaykh'', i.e. old), the name given to Chaabi (music), Chaabi singers. Messaoud Bellemou ( ar, مسعود بلمو) is an Algerian musician and one of the most influential performers of modern raï music. He is considered by some people like one of the fathers of Modern Raï Music. Messaoud began his career playing the trumpet but soon became known for adding foreign instruments like the saxophone, violin, and accordion to the genre. He worked during the 1970s with different raï singers of his generation like Boutaïaba Sghir, Boussouar El Maghnaoui, Bouteldja Belkacem. Boutaiba Sghir
Boutaiba Sghir (born June 4, 1945) is an Algerian raï singer and songwriter. Biography In 1963, he released his first single, at 18, Chetek el Berah. In 1963, he gave his first concert "Scène d'été" in Chaabet El Ham and Aïn Témouchent. His first success came in 1968 with the single ''El Caoucaou''. Then he was a violinist for the orchestra of Oran radio from 1967 to 1969. In 1969, ''Raba Raba'' and ''El Fermliya'' are released and are still appreciated to this day by the public. Like a lot of raï artists of his generation, he began his raï singer career at the end of 60s with Melhoun Bedoui music (also called old raï) With Boussouar El Maghnaoui, Bouteldja Belkacem and the musician Gana El Maghnaoui, he was one of the fathers of modern raï (also called pop Bedoui or pop raï). Mourad Gana ( ar, مراد قانا; born February 2, 1958), known professionally as Gana El Maghnaoui ( ar, قانا المغناوي), is an Algerian raï songwriter, lyricist and composer. Biography From Maghnia ( Tlemcen Province), Mourad Gana, better known under the name Gana El Maghnaoui, was born 2 February 1958 in Maghnia, Algeria. As a musician, he plays the violin as well as the trumpet. His debut in rai music dates back to 1973. He was part of the orchestra of the Oran section of the RTA (1974–1980), then in Algiers. In 1978, he released two EPs and a year later he recorded an 8 track cassette. Noting that it didn't work, he disappeared and resumed in 1986 with the hit ''Ala ezzergha rani nsel'' and a cover of Bouteldja Belkacem ''Milouda fine Kunti'', the hit of the year.
