Bottrop Hauptbahnof is a railway station in Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the Oberhausen-Osterfeld Süd – Hamm railway and Essen–Bottrop railway and is served by RE and S-Bahn services operated by DB and NordWestBahn. History On 12 November 1879, the Royal Westphalian Railway Company opened the Horst–Osterfeld section of its Welver-Sterkrade line, but failed to build a station in Bottrop city. Just one year later the company was nationalised and the line was partly dismantled. On 1 May 1905 the Prussian state railways opened the Oberhausen-Osterfeld Süd–Hamm railway, which runs parallel to the Westphalian route from Osterfeld Süd to the east for about four kilometres to the current Bottrop Hauptbahnhof and then swings to the north. On this line a station was opened nearly half a kilometre east of the present station then called ''West Bottrop'' station. Bottrop
Bottrop () is a city in west-central Germany, on the Rhine–Herne Canal, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Located in the Ruhr industrial area, Bottrop adjoins Essen, Oberhausen, Gladbeck, and Dorsten. The city had been a coal-mining and rail center and contains factories producing coal-tar derivatives, chemicals, textiles, and machinery. Bottrop grew as a mining center beginning in the 1860s, was chartered as a city in 1921, and bombed during the Oil Campaign of World War II. In 1975, it unified with the neighbouring communities of Gladbeck and Kirchhellen, but Gladbeck left it in 1976, leading to Kirchhellen becoming a district of Bottrop as Bottrop-Kirchhellen. Coesfeld Station (Westphalia) is the main railway station of the town of Coesfeld and an important transport hub in western Münsterland in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a junction station on the Dortmund–Enschede, Essen-Coesfeld and Empel-Rees–Münster lines. Essen Hauptbahnhof (German for "Essen main station") is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It is situated south of the old town centre, next to the A 40 motorway. It was opened in 1862 by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn. Duisburg–Quakenbrück Railway
The Duisburg–Quakenbrück railway is a former inter-regional German railway, built by the Rhenish Railway Company (RhE) from Duisburg in the western Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia to Quakenbrück in Lower Saxony on the border of the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. Some sections of it are now disused. The railway ran from Duisburg via Oberhausen West, Bottrop Nord, Dorsten, Coesfeld, Steinfurt and Rheine to Quakenbrück where it connected with the network of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg State Railways. The majority of the line is now closed. The southern section to Bottrop is now used only for freight. The section between Dorsten and Coesfeld is still used for passengers as timetable route 423.
