Smith (1992) made the last review of the genus summarizing all known data. Distribution The land snail genus ''Bothriembryon'' is endemic to Australia but forms part of the Gondwanan element in the superfamily Orthalicoidea. ''Bothriembryon'' species are mostly patchy in their distribution. Taxonomy This genus was classified with the Bulimulidae by Pilsbry (1900), Breure (1979)Breure A.S. H. List Of Non-marine Molluscs Of Australia
This is a very incomplete list of the non-marine molluscs of the country of Australia. They are part of the invertebrate fauna of Australia. Freshwater gastropods The freshwater molluscs of Australia vary greatly in size, shape, biology and evolutionary history, and more than 99% of the native species occur nowhere else on earth. Currently, there are more than 400 native described species and a further 100 species that are undescribed. A Lucid multi-access key for them, together with descriptions is found at Australian Freshwater Molluscs, Revision 1A'. Ampullariidae Genus ''Pomacea'' * '' Pomacea diffusa''  Blume, 1957 Assimineidae Genus '' Austroassiminea'' * '' Austroassiminea letha'' Solem, Girardi, Slack-Smith & Kendrick, 1982 Genus ''Aviassiminea'' * '' Aviassiminea palitans'' Fukuda & Ponder, 2003 Genus '' Suterilla'' * '' Suterilla fluviatilis'' Fukuda, Ponder & Marshall, 2006 (only found on Norfolk Island) Genus '' Taiwanassiminea'' * ''Ta ...

Bothriembryontidae
Bothriembryontidae is a family of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Orthalicoidea. Taxonomy This family has been named Placostylidae and had no subfamilies (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Breure et al. (2010) moved '' Prestonella'' and '' Bothriembryon'' to Placostylidae. Breure & Romero (2012) confirmed previous results from 2010 and they renamed Placostylidae to Bothriembryontidae. * subfamily Bothriembryontinae Iredale, 1937 * subfamily Placostylinae Pilsbry, 1946 - for species from New Zealand and Melanesia Prestonellinae was formally described as a new subfamily within Bothriembryontidae in 2016. Bruggen A. C. van, Herbert D. G. & Breure A. S. H. (2016). "Prestonellinae – validation of the name as a new subfamily of Bothriembryontidae (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Orthalicoidea)". ''Zootaxa'' 4084: 590–592. Therefore three subfamilies are recognized in Bothriembryontidae: * sub ...
