Boroughmuir
Boroughmuir RFC is a rugby union football club in the Scottish Rugby Union. The club's home ground is Meggetland, in southwest Edinburgh and the club plays in the , where they are known as the Boroughmuir Bears. Founded in 1919 and admitted to the SRU in 1939, it was originally restricted to former pupils of Boroughmuir High School. The badge is derived from Boroughmuir High School and they acquired it in 1913. Although it has lost that direct connection, the home ground and navy blue/emerald colours are unchanged. The club won the Scottish unofficial club rugby championship in the 1954–55 and 1972–73 seasons. The club have the second longest number of seasons in the top division having only been relegated twice and on both occasions bouncing straight back up to the top division. The record is held by Heriots FP who have never been relegated. Boroughmuir became the first team to win the Scottish Cup "back to back" in 2001, and the first team to win it three times in 2015. ... Boroughmuir High School
Boroughmuir High School is a non-denominational secondary school in Edinburgh, Scotland. Buildings It was founded in 1904, and located at 22–24 Warrender Park Crescent, overlooking Bruntsfield Links, in a building designed by John Alexander Carfrae, and remembered by Muriel Spark as 'the school on the links'. Built as Boroughmuir School, the building became James Gillespies in 1913 when the new Boroughmuir on Viewforth was opened. After the new Gillespie's was opened the building became Boroughmuir again as the 'Junior School' housing first and second years. The building on the links is now University of Edinburgh student residences. The school moved to a site at 26 Viewforth, also designed by Carfrae, from 1913 to 2018. Sean Lineen
Sean Lineen (born 25 December 1961) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. He was a former Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors from 2006 to 2012. He was a Director for the Scottish Rugby Union until December 2021. Rugby Union career Amateur career Lineen played as a Centre. Originally from New Zealand, in the 1985–86 season he made his first journey to the UK, playing for Pontypool in Wales. In October 1988 he came to Scotland and played for Boroughmuir. Provincial career He played for Edinburgh District. He has been awarded the freedom of the city of Edinburgh. He played for the Blues Trial side against the Reds Trial side on 6 January 1990. Peebles Sevens
Peebles Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Peebles RFC, in Peebles, Scotland. This was one of a group of Sevens tournaments instated after the First World War extending the original Borders Spring Circuit. The Peebles Sevens began in 1923. Due to a calendar change in 2016; the tournament was moved from end-of-season to start-of-season. Hence 2016 shows two winners:- one for 2015–16 season and one for 2016–17 season. Subsequent tournaments were held as start of season Sevens. The 2018 winner (for season 2018–19) is Melrose. The Peebles Sevens is part of the Kings of the Sevens championship run by the Border League. This event was one of the first Sevens tournaments in the Borders to run with a 12-person squad in 2018–19 season, as opposed to a 10-person squad. It also featured rolling substitutions. Meggetland Sports Complex
Meggetland Sports Complex, owned by Edinburgh Leisure, is a Sports Pavilion used for a number of International fixtures across the five outdoor facilities they hold; 3G Pitch, Astroturf, Football Pitches, Rugby Pitches and Cricket Pitches. They regularly host matches for many clubs and groups, including Boroughmuir Rugby Club, Boroughmuir Hockey Club, Edinburgh Cala Hockey Club, Boroughmuir Thistle Football Club and Boroughmuir Cricket Club. In addition, the ground also hosted three Edinburgh Rugby matches during the 2013–14 Pro 12 season. They hosted Edinburgh against the Ospreys on 28 February, Cardiff Blues on 11 April and Munster on 3 May. Scottish Cup (rugby Union)
The Scottish Cup is the annual knock-out cup competition for domestic rugby union clubs in Scotland. The cup has been competed for since the 1995-1996 season. The competition was in abeyance between 2019 and 2022, initially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and made its return in the 2022-23 season. Despite many structural changes the competition has always culminated with the final at Murrayfield Stadium. Format Clubs in the three National Leagues compete in the first round, with six Premiership sides added in the second round, and the final four Premiership teams added in the third round of the competition. As part of the Scottish Cup Finals day, the finals of the Shield and Bowl competitions are also held. Hawick Sevens
Hawick Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Hawick RFC, in Hawick, Scotland. The Hawick Sevens tournament started in 1886 and is the third extant oldest Sevens tournament in the world; behind Melrose Sevens (1883) and Gala Sevens (1884). Usually held around the end of every April, the tournament is part of the Kings of the Sevens competition. 2019's Hawick Sevens took place on the 20 April. The final was won by Boroughmuir. For the 2019–20 season the tournament will instead move to an August fixture. This was played on 10 August 2019. No tournament was held for 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2021–22 season event was won by Melrose. The disassociated Hawick & Wilton Sevens started in 1885. Scottish Premiership (rugby)
The Scottish Premiership (referred to as the Tennents Premiership for sponsorship reasons) is an amateur league competition for Scottish rugby union clubs. First held in 1973, it is the top division of the Scottish League Championship. The most recent (2019) champions are Ayr, while the most successful club is Hawick, who have won the competition twelve times. Ten clubs contest the league, with the bottom club relegated to the Scottish National League Division One and second-bottom club involved in a play-off. The top level of club rugby in Scotland are the two professional teams – Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby – that play in the United Rugby Championship. They assign their players to the clubs below in a Pro-Draft; so that they can still play when not used by the professional sides. Melrose Sevens
Melrose Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Melrose Rugby Club, at The Greenyards in Melrose, Scotland. It is the oldest rugby sevens competition in the world, dating back to 1883 when the tournament was suggested by former Melrose player Ned Haig. English side London Scottish are the current champions after beating Edinburgh Accies 29–12 in the 2019 final to win the event for the first time since 1965. History Held every April, the tournament is part of the Kings of the Sevens competition, and has attracted teams from as far afield as Japan, Hong Kong, Uruguay and South Africa. From 2018 the playing time in the final was cut from twenty minutes to fourteen minutes which is in line with the standard match time. Derek Stark (rugby Union)
Derek Stark (born 13 April 1966 in Kilmarnock) is a Scottish former international rugby union player who played for Glasgow Warriors at the Wing positions Rugby Union career Amateur career Stark grew up in Kilmarnock playing rugby with Kilmarnock RFC and working in his parents hotel there, The Foxbar Hotel. As a teenager he moved south to England to study a catering course in Woking at the Tante Marie Culinary Academy. While he was there he played amateur rugby for Guildford & Godalming RFC and Chobham RFC. After a sojourn into athletics, on seeing the top Caribbean athletes run slightly quicker, Stark moved back into rugby playing for Boroughmuir RFC. Walkerburn Sevens
Walkerburn Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Walkerburn RFC, in Walkerburn, Scotland. The Walkerburn Sevens was the sixth of the Border Sevens tournaments to be instated, in 1911, after the bigger events of the Border Sevens spring circuit. The Walkerburn Sevens is traditionally the last tournament of the Sevens season. Although other Sevens events were to join the Borders Sevens Circuit later, the Walkerburn Sevens has kept its view as a finale from the other tournaments. The other Borders Sevens tournaments combine in a Kings of the Sevens league; the Walkerburn tournament is called the ''Prince of the Sevens''. 2019's Walkerburn Sevens will be played on 25 May. Euan Ferrie
Euan Ferrie (born 10 May 1996) is a Scottish rugby union player who plays for Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship. He plays at Flanker and Lock. Rugby Union career Amateur career Ferrie came through the school ranks at Calderglen High School of St Leonards, East Kilbride and then played for East Kilbride. He then moved to play for Hamilton Bulls; and then moved again to play for Glasgow Hawks.
