''Born Rich'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by William Nigh and written by Harriete Underhill and Walter DeLeon. It is based on the 1924 novel ''Born Rich'' by Hughes Cornell. The film stars Claire Windsor, Bert Lytell, Cullen Landis, Doris Kenyon, Frank Morgan, and J. Barney Sherry. The film was released on December 7, 1924, by First National Pictures. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, leaving her palatial home and fast set of wealthy friends, Chadyeane (Windsor) goes to France where her baby is born. During her absence, Frances (Kenyon) makes such a strong play for Jimmy (Lytell) that Major Murphy (Sherry) writes a warning letter to Chad about her husband. Chad returns and misinterprets the meaning of a suitcase in her boudoir which Frances had inadvertently left there while changing her riding habit. William Nigh
William Nigh (October 12, 1881 – November 27, 1955) was an American film director, writer, and actor. His film work sometimes lists him as either "Will Nigh" or "William Nye". Biography Nigh was born Emil Kreuske''Silent Film Necrology'', p. 393 2nd edition c.2001 by Eugene Michael Vazzana in Berlin, Wisconsin. He began his film career as an actor, appearing in 17 films in 1913 and 1914; he also directed one of these, ''Salomy Jane''. He acted in eight more films in the 1910s and two more in the 1920s, but he is known mainly as a director, and an extremely prolific one at that, with a total output of 119 films, the last in 1948. Maude Turner Gordon (November 10, 1868 – January 12, 1940) was an American actress who appeared in 81 films between 1914 and 1938. Biography Born in Franklin, Indiana, Gordon was the daughter of Alexander and Nancy Wright Turner. She was educated in the schools in Franklin. A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (black comedy being an exception). Comedy is one of the oldest genres in film and it is derived from the classical comedy in theatre. Some of the earliest silent films were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. When sound films became more prevalent during the 1930s, comedy films took another swing, as laughter could result from burlesque situations but also dialogue.
