''Born Again Pagans'' is an extended play attributed to Coil vs. ELpH. "ELpH" is a name Coil attributed to a spiritual entity they felt was communicating with them during recording. Background In the CD booklet track one is attributed to Coil and tracks two, three and four are attributed to ELpH. "Protection" is supposed to be the single for the "forthcoming double CD compilation the ''Sound of Music''" due "Spring 1995". However the ''Sound of Music'', a proposed compilation of Coil's soundtrack work, was never released. Recreated versions of the song "Protection" were released as "Simenon" and "Bee Has the Photos" on the '' Backwards'' demo. Three official alternate versions of the song "Protection" have also surfaced as bootlegs. Their track timings are: 13:26, 4:36, and 6:28. "Glimpse" is a version of "pHILM #1". Coil (band)
Coil were an English experimental music group formed in 1982 in London and dissolved in 2005. Initially envisioned as a solo project by musician John Balance (of the band Psychic TV), Coil evolved into a full-time project with the addition of his partner and Psychic TV bandmate Peter Christopherson, formerly of pioneering industrial music group Throbbing Gristle. Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial music, post-industrial scene." Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Acid House
Acid house (also simply known as just "acid") is a subgenre of house music developed around the mid-1980s by DJs from Chicago. The style is defined primarily by the squelching sounds and basslines of the Roland TB-303 electronic bass synthesizer-sequencer, an innovation attributed to Chicago producers DJ Pierre of Phuture and Sleezy D. Acid house soon became popular in the United Kingdom and continental Europe, where it was played by DJs in the acid house and later rave scenes. By the late 1980s, acid house had moved into the British mainstream, where it had some influence on pop and dance styles. Acid house brought house music to a worldwide audience. Eskaton
Eskaton is a defunct Vanity label, vanity record label created by Coil (band), Coil, exclusively for albums put out by the group and their friends. Its brother labels are Threshold House and Chalice (record label), Chalice. The record label is often associated with the symbol of the "Chaos Cross" and the "Twisted Chaos Cross", symbols which have appeared on several Eskaton releases, such as ''Gold Is The Metal with the Broadest Shoulders''. Worship The Glitch
''Worship the Glitch'' is the only full-length album to be released by "ELpH vs. Coil", though an EP called ''Born Again Pagans'' is credited to "Coil vs. ELpH". ELpH is the name that Coil used to describe the random musical compositions that were generated from their own equipment, either by itself or as an unintended yet pleasant byproduct of their own work; as a result, this album can essentially count as a Coil album. Background John Balance, Peter Christopherson and Drew McDowall are credited for creating ''Worship the Glitch''. "Mono" is a cover version of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", consisting of a heavily processed guitar solo. The first 500 copies of the CD were a special edition, which included a reflective cover. The 2X10" vinyl format was released in an edition of 2,000 numbered copies. Brainwashed is a not-for-profit music website supporting eclectic music. Brainwashed features news, reviews, a podcast, hosts websites for many musical artists and record labels, and has organized two music festivals, Brainwaves. Over fifty people contribute to the archives of Brainwashed. Brainwashed also releases music as Brainwashed Recordings. History Brainwashed.com was launched on April 16, 1996 for the purpose of hosting Web sites for various musical artists. The New Backwards
''The New Backwards'' is an album by Coil released on 18 April 2008. The album is reworked from the '' Backwards'' demo, which was originally created for Nothing Records. Background ''The New Backwards'' was produced by Peter Christopherson and Danny Hyde, and is reworked from the ''Backwards'' demo, which was submitted to Torso Records in 1993 and then further recorded at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the mid-1990s for a planned release on Reznor's Nothing Records imprint on major label Interscope Records. The record was made in Bangkok in 2007. The album was originally released on 12" vinyl as part of a box set reissue of the album ''The Ape of Naples''. CoH (musician)
CoH is the musical alias of Ivan Pavlov (Иван Павлов), a Russian-born musician, sound artist and engineer. He has lived in Sweden since 1995. After moving to Sweden, he adopted the alias CoH which can be read in both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. It means sleep or dream in Russian. CoH worked with singer Annie Anxiety, with Cosey Fanni Tutti, with American artist Richard Chartier (under names Chessmachine and Nice Box) as well as with the British band Coil. Together with Peter Christopherson from Coil he launched the band Soisong in 2007.
