Alice Borchardt ( Alice Allen O'Brien; October 6, 1939 – July 24, 2007) was an American writer of historical fiction, fantasy, horror. She shared a childhood of storytelling in New Orleans with her sister, the novelist Anne Rice, who was two years younger. Karol Olgierd Borchardt ( 25 March 1905 – 20 May 1986 ) was a Polish writer and captain of the Polish Merchant Marine. Biography Born to Polish parents in Moscow, Karol Borchardt spent the vast majority of his life in Gdynia and died there in 1986. Borchardt gained a place in history of the Polish Merchant Marine, as an officer on Polish transatlantic liners and training sail ships. During World War II he served on two Polish liners converted into troop transports (the m/v PIłSUDSKI and the m/v CHROBRY), and survived the loss of both. After the war he trained two generations of Polish officers. While demanding, he had a reputation as a warm-hearted and understanding teacher, and an excellent lecturer. Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878
The Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878 is a single-shot hammerless falling-block action rifle designed by Hugo Borchardt and made by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company. It closely resembles older Sharps Rifles but has a firing mechanism that uses a hammerless striker rather than a hammer and firing pin like the old Sharps Rifle. This hammerless dropping-block breech-loader was based on a patent granted to Hugo Borchardt in 1877. It was the last of the Sharps single-shot rifles, and the Borchardt did not sell very well. According to company records 22,500 rifles were made in all models from 1877 until the Sharps Rifle Co. closed down in 1881. Although it was designed for the huge black powder "buffalo" cartridges of the day, it came too late, at the very end of the great bison slaughter. Borchardt C-93
The Borchardt C93 is a semi-automatic pistol designed by Hugo Borchardt in 1893. The design is based upon the Maxim gun's toggle lock model. Borchardt developed the high-velocity, bottlenecked 7.65×25mm Borchardt cartridge for the C93. His assistant at the time, Georg Luger, also claimed to have influenced its design. Machine tool manufacturer Ludwig Loewe & Company of Berlin, Germany, produced the C93 in anticipation of military orders. With about 1,100 manufactured by Loewe and nearly 2,000 more produced by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken. The Borchardt C93 was the first mass-produced semi-automatic pistol. Design and history The pistol used a toggle lock system, which meant that when the gun fired, a two-piece arm rose and flexed as the gun recoiled, thus allowing the breech to unlock and release the empty cartridge case. Roland Siegfried Borchardt (known as SS-Siggi; 14 November 1953 – 3 October 2021) was a German neo-Nazi of the Free fellowship and a former functionary of the Freedom German Workers' Party, which was banned in 1995. In the 2014 local elections, he won a seat on the city council of the city of Dortmund, as the party's leading candidate, but resigned after two months. Paul Borchardt (23 July 1886 – 29 September 1957) was a German archaeologist, a pupil of the geographer Siegfried Passarge. He is known for his theory that the mythical city of Atlantis was located in Tunisia. Borchardt argued that the Shott el Jerid swamp, generally thought to mark the site of Lake Tritonis, was in fact the original Atlantic Sea referred to by Plato. Borchardt also identified Mount Atlas as being a peak in the Ahaggar Mountains, rather than in the Atlas range. He related the names of Berber tribes to the names of Poseidon's sons in Greek mythology, and suggested links between the city of Atlantis, the palace of Alkinoös referenced in '' The Odyssey'' and the City of Brass in the tales of ''The Arabian Nights''. He is best known as the subject of the 1999 film ''American Movie'', which documented three years he spent writing, shooting and editing his horror short, '' Coven'' (1997). He started making films at the age of fourteen with a super-8 camera that was given to him by a neighbor. Knut Borchardt (2 June 1929 – 5 February 2023) was a German researcher, historian and former professor for history and economics at both the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Mannheim from 1962 to 1991. Moreover, he served as rector at the University of Mannheim between 1967 and 1969. Education Borchardt was born in Berlin, Germany. He studied from 1949 to 1954 economics, business administration, history and German studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich where he obtained his ''Diplom'' (former German master's equivalent) in 1954.
