Mark Borchardt
Mark Borchardt (born August 20, 1966) is an American independent filmmaker. He is best known as the subject of the 1999 film ''American Movie'', which documented three years he spent writing, shooting and editing his horror short, '' Coven'' (1997). Early life Borchardt was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His mother, Monica, is Swedish. He started making films at the age of fourteen with a super-8 camera that was given to him by a neighbor. After serving three years in the military, he continued his cinematic endeavors at the local university. In the mid-nineties, he wrote and produced Halloween radio dramas which were broadcast annually and won a fellowship from the Milwaukee Art Futures Board. Career Filmmakers Chris Smith and Sarah Price began filming Borchardt while he was attempting to put together funding for his unfinished feature ''Northwestern''. Riverview Theater
The Riverview Theater is a cinema in the Howe neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Designed by Liebenberg and Kaplan, the theater was built by theater owners Bill and Sidney Volk in 1948. After building a subsequent theater in a new ultramodern style, the Volks returned to the Riverview in 1956 and had its lobby area heavily renovated and updated. The Riverview remains one of several surviving single-screen cinemas in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area and typically showed second-run films until the COVID-19 pandemic, when it switched to showing first-run movies. Since the early 2000s, it has been consistently recognized by ''City Pages'' as one of the best movie theaters in the area. ''The Show with No Name'' is a public-access television cable TV show that aired in Austin, Texas, hosted by Charlie Sotelo and the mysterious "Cinco." Each show featured clips of TV, film and music ephemera along with commentary by the hosts and calls from a predictably unruly public-access television audience. Content The clips were usually video snippets that captured a crazy moment of ephemeral history, such as Ed McMahon drunk on ''The Tonight Show'', an early live TV appearance by Frank Zappa playing the bicycle and other found instruments, or the famously disastrous Andy Kaufman appearance on '' Fridays''. Mike Schank
Mikel Joseph Schank (August 3, 1969 – October 13, 2022) was an American actor and musician. He was close friends with independent filmmaker Mark Borchardt and helped Borchardt make the 1997 short horror film ''Coven (1997 film), Coven''. He appeared with Borchardt in the 1999 documentary film ''American Movie'', for which Schank also provided music. A resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Schank later appeared in the films ''Storytelling (film), Storytelling'' (2001) and ''Hamlet A.D.D.'' (2014), and made a cameo appearance as himself alongside Borchardt in a 2006 episode of ''Family Guy''. As a musician, Schank recorded three homemade CDs, including ''Dreams I Know—Yesternight'' (2009), which features Schank playing acoustic guitar along with drum loops, Sampling (music), samples, and spoken recollections of his dreams.
