Bonifacio (, , ; co, Bunifaziu , , or ; lij, label= Bonifacino, Bunifazziu; sdn, Bunifaciu) is a commune in the southern tip of the island of Corsica, in the French department of Corse-du-Sud. The Strait of Bonifacio (french: Bouches de Bonifacio; it, Bocche di Bonifacio; co, Bucchi di Bunifaziu; sdn, Bocchi di Bunifaciu; sc, Buccas de Bonifatziu; lij, Bocche de Bunifazziu; lat, Fretum Gallicum, Fretum Taphros) is the strait between Corsica and Sardinia, named after the Corsican town Bonifacio. It is wide and divides the Tyrrhenian Sea from the western Mediterranean Sea. The strait is notorious among sailors for its weather, currents, shoals, and other obstacles. The most famous disaster in the Strait of Bonifacio was that of the French frigate '' Sémillante'' on February 15, 1855. ''Sémillante'' had left the port of Toulon the day before on her way into the Black Sea to supply the Crimean War with troops. A storm caused her to hit a reef; the ship sank and none of the 750 soldiers on board survived. Fort Andres Bonifacio (formerly named Fort William McKinley) is the site of the national headquarters of the Philippine Army (Headquarters Philippine Army or HPA) located in Metro Manila, Philippines. The Liwasang Bonifacio (''Bonifacio Square''), also known by its former name, Plaza Lawton, is a city square and transport hub in front of the Manila Central Post Office in the Ermita district of Manila, Philippines. It lies at the south end of Jones Bridge, MacArthur Bridge, and Quezon Bridge that link the northern districts of Binondo, Santa Cruz, and Quiapo to the central district of Ermita. Bonifacio Drive is a road running for approximately in a north-south direction between Intramuros and Port Area in Manila, Philippines. The boulevard is also designated as Radial Road 1 (R-1) of Manila's arterial road network, National Route 120 (N120) of the Philippine highway network and an auxiliary route of Asian Highway 26 (AH26). The boulevard is named for national hero Andrés Bonifacio, the ''Supremo'' of the Katipunan and thus the father of the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. The Bonifacio Transport Corporation, or more commonly known as BGC Bus or formerly The Fort Bus, is an intercity bus company in Metro Manila, the Philippines, serving routes that connect Makati, Bonifacio Global City, and Taguig.
