Bonafide (Maxi Priest Album)
''Bonafide'' is the fourth studio album by the English pop/reggae singer Maxi Priest. It was released in 1990 by Charisma Records. The album peaked at number 47 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 in the United States, while its biggest hit, "Close to You (Maxi Priest song), Close to You", was a smash, peaking at number one that year. Three other singles were issued: "Human Work of Art" ("Close to You"'s predecessor, which did not chart in the US), "Just a Little Bit Longer" (a minor hit at 62) and "Space in My Heart" (failed to chart). However, the success of "Close to You" (a gold single on 30 October 1990) drove the album to gold status, which it received on 30 January 1991 by the RIAA, Recording Industry Association of America. Maxi Priest
Max Alfred "Maxi" Elliott (born 10 June 1961), known by his stage name Maxi Priest, is a British reggae vocalist of Jamaican descent. He is best known for singing reggae music with an R&B influence, otherwise known as reggae fusion. He was one of the first international artists to have success in this genre, and one of the most successful reggae fusion acts of all time. Early life Maxi Priest was born in Lewisham, London, the second youngest of nine siblings. His parents had moved to England from Jamaica to provide more opportunity for their family and he grew up listening to gospel, reggae, R&B, and pop music. He first learned to sing in church, encouraged by his mother, who was a Pentecostal missionary. David Austin (born David Mortimer) is a British singer and songwriter, who released the single " Turn to Gold", co-written with George Michael in 1984. It reached No. 68 in the UK Singles Chart. The single featured backing vocals from George Michael, who called Austin his best friend in the documentary film, ''A Different Story''. His follow-up single, "This Boy Loves The Sun", was released in the late summer of 1984 but did not chart. A third single, "Love While You Can" was released only in Japan. Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick
Jean-Paul Maunick (born 19 February 1957, Mauritius), better known by his stage name Bluey is a British guitarist, bandleader, composer and record producer. He has led the British acid jazz band Incognito since its formation in 1979. With Incognito, he has released fifteen studio albums as well as a number of live albums, remix albums and compilation albums. Prior to forming Incognito, Bluey was an original member of the group Light of the World. Gary Benson (musician)
Gary Benson (born Harry Hyams) is an English singer and songwriter. Career Benson spent eight weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1975 with his own composition, " Don't Throw It All Away". The single, released on the State Records label (State Records STAT10), reached No. 20 on the chart, leading to an appearance on BBC Television's ''Top of the Pops''. The song had originally been recorded by the Shadows, and they had performed it in the 1975 ''A Song for Europe'' contest, where it finished fourth of six entries. The song was covered in the United States by the Delfonics in 1978. There are also a number of reggae versions that include a dancehall style cut by Barrington Levy.
