Bomen, New South Wales
Bomen is a northern suburb of Wagga Wagga in southern New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is dominated by industrial enterprises including Cargill Beef, Watties, the Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre (saleyards). The suburb is also home to Wagga Wagga's secondary (and original) railway station on the Main Southern line, when the line waited for the construction of a bridge over the Murrumbidgee River. New streets in Bomen are to be named after sheep and cattle breeds. Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics Hub
The Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics Hub (also known as RiFL Hub) is an Australian dry port in the northern Wagga Wagga suburb of Bomen adjacent to the Main Southern railway line. History In July 2013 the Wagga Wagga City Council resolved sought submissions from applicants for the operation of the proposed Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics Hub. Asciano were selected as the preferred proponent but backed out. A second venture with rail infrastructure specialist Traxion failed when that company went into voluntary administration. In September 2015 Genesee & Wyoming Australia were selected as the preferred proponent, signing a framework agreement with the council in April 2017. Concrete Sleeper
A concrete sleeper (British English) or concrete tie (American English) is a type of railway sleeper or railroad tie made out of steel reinforced concrete. History In 1877, Joseph Monier, a French gardener, suggested that concrete reinforced with steel could be used for making sleepers for railway track. Monier designed a sleeper and obtained a patent for it, but it was not successful. Concrete sleepers were first used on the Alford and Sutton Tramway in 1884. Their first use on a main line railway was by the Reading Company in America in 1896, as recorded by AREA Proceedings at the time. Murrumbidgee River
The Murrumbidgee River () is a major tributary of the Murray River within the Murray–Darling basin and the second longest river in Australia. Main Southern Railway Line
The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services.
