Bombay Orthodox Diocese
Bombay Diocese is a diocese of the Indian Orthodox Church located at The Orthodox Church Centre, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. History The parishes in Mumbai Region were part of the Outside Kerala Diocese until the Bombay Diocese was formed in 1976. The first parish in Mumbai was St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Cathedral in Dadar, which was consecrated in 1951 by the late Catholicos Baselios Geevarghese II. The present Diocese of Mumbai was formed in 1976, with Thomas Mar Makarios as its first bishop. The Diocese established the first Gregorian Community in Roha near Mumbai, with the motto ''"worship, study, and service"''. Named after the saint Mary, the community aimed to create a space for young people to meet and experience the richness of nature, to induct them to the monastic life and worship patterns, and to instill a sense of commitment and service to the community. Dadar ( ̪aːd̪əɾ is a densely populated residential and shopping neighbourhood in Mumbai. It is also a prominent railway and bus service hub with local and national connectivity. Baselios Geevarghese II
Moran Mor Baselios Geevarghese II of the Malankara Church (16 June 1874 – 3 January 1964). Third Catholicos of the East in Malankara and 16th Malankara Metropolitan, was born to Ulahannan and Naithi of the Kallaserri family in Kurichi, Kottayam India on 16 June 1874. On 24 April 1892, Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasios ordained him as deacon and on 24 November and 27 November 1898 he was ordained as priest and Ramban respectively by Parumala Mar Gregorios. He resided in Kadambanad church and took charge of the southern dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He also served as Manager and Malpan of the Old Seminary. Thomas Mar Makarios
Thomas Mar Makarios (born 26 May 1926 in India and died on 23 Feb 2008 in Newcastle, England) was the founder of the diocese of the United States and Canada of the Malankara Orthodox Church and the first metropolitan of the UK, Europe , Africa diocese , the diocese of the United States and Canada and the Diocese of Bombay . Makarios began his career as a school teacher in India, resigning this position to study theology. He was ordained a priest in 1952, and was appointed first vicar of the Malankara Orthodox Church in New Delhi. In 1963 he entered the United States to study for an advanced degree, receiving a Master's in religion from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in theology from Union Theological Seminary of Richmond, Virginia. Upon returning to India he was appointed a Professor of church history at the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kottayam. Roha () is a town and taluka in the Raigad district of the Maharashtra state of India. It is located 120 km southeast of Mumbai. It is the starting point of Konkan railways and end point of central railways (Mumbai). Many chemical industries have opened up their manufacturing bases in Roha.
