Umán Municipality
Umán Municipality is one of the 106 municipalities in the Mexican state of Yucatán containing (234.30 km2) of land and located roughly 15 km southwest of the city of Mérida. The word "Umán" means “purchase” in the Yucatec Maya language. History There is no accurate data on when the town was founded, though it existed before the conquest and in antiquity belonged to the chieftainship of Ah Canul. At colonization, Umán became part of the encomienda system with Francisco Hernández recorded as one of the earliest encomenderos. Yucatán declared its independence from the Spanish Crown in 1821 and in 1825, the area was assigned to the Lower Camino Real with its headquarters in Hunucma Municipality. Linda S. Bolon (born June 22, 1948) is a Democratic politician who served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 1st District from 2007 to 2010 for 2 terms. A lifelong resident of Columbiana County, Mrs. Bolon graduated from Columbus University. She began a career in auditing, serving as the treasurer of the East Palestine School District before moving on to serve as an auditor for the State of Ohio under former State Auditor, Thomas Ferguson. In 1995, Mrs. Bolon was elected to the East Palestine City Council, serving in the capacity of a councilwoman for four years, until becoming Columbiana County Treasurer in 1999. Andrew Bolon
Andrew Jackson Bolon (c. 1826 – September 25, 1855) was a Bureau of Indian Affairs agent whose 1855 death at the hands of renegade Yakama is considered one of several contributing factors in the outbreak of the Yakima War. Some sources assert Bolon was the first law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in the territory that is now the state of Washington, though the Washington Peace Officers Memorial in Olympia, Washington lists a King County sheriff's deputy killed the year before Bolon's death. Early life Bolon was born in Pennsylvania, where he married, eventually emigrating west and settling in Vancouver, Washington. During the Cayuse War Bolon served in the Oregon militia. By May 1855 he was working as a Sub-Agent in the Bureau of Indian Affairs, reporting to Agent James Doty.
