Vestre Bokn
Vestre Bokn is an island in Bokn municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is the main island of the municipality. It lies on the northern side of the Boknafjorden at the southern end of the Karmsundet strait. Vestre Bokn lies between the islands of Karmøy (to the west) and Austre Bokn and Ognøya (to the northeast). The main population centre on the island is the village of Føresvik, the administrative centre of the whole municipality. There are about 661 inhabitants on the island (as of 2014). Vestre Bokn is connected to the mainland via a series of bridges on the European route E39 highway which connect to Austre Bokn, then to Ognøya, and then to the mainland. Føresvik
Føresvik (sometimes called ''Bokn'') is the administrative centre of Bokn municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located on the northeastern shore of the island of Vestre Bokn, along the rather narrow Boknasundet strait which separates Vestre Bokn from the island of Austre Bokn. The European route E39 highway runs through the village and the bridge connecting Vestre Bokn to Austre Bokn (and ultimately to the mainland) is also located in Føresvik. Austre Bokn
Austre Bokn is an island in Bokn municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies on the northern side of the Boknafjorden between the islands of Ognøya and Vestre Bokn. It's connected to the other two islands and to the mainland by a series of bridges along the European route E39 highway. Both islands are separated from Austre Bokn by very small channels that are only about wide. Most of the island is barren, rocky, and uninhabited. The tall Vardefjellet is the highest point on the island. The majority of the island's population is located along the western and southern shores. Bokn Church
Bokn Church ( no, Bokn kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bokn Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Føresvik. It is the church for the Bokn parish which is part of the Haugaland prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1847 using designs by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 300 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1620, but the church was likely built in the 12th century, since that is when the church's baptismal font was made. The first church here was probably a stave church. In 1686, the old stave church was torn down and replaced with a new (small) timber-framed church on the same site. Boknafjorden
Boknafjord or Boknafjorden ( en, Bokna Fjord) is a fjord located in Rogaland county, Norway. The huge fjord lies between the cities of Stavanger and Haugesund and dominates the central part of the county. The main part of the fjord is shared between the municipalities of Kvitsøy, Stavanger, Tysvær, Bokn, and Karmøy. There are dozens of smaller fjords that branch off the main part of the fjord, reaching most municipalities in the county. At its longest, the Boknafjord reaches about into the mainland at the innermost point of the Hylsfjorden. Skudenes
Skudenes is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It was part of the traditional district of Haugaland. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. The administrative centre was the town of Skudeneshavn (which technically was a separate municipality). The municipality originally encompassed land that is now part of the municipalities of Bokn and Karmøy. It included the southern part of the island of Karmøy and the three islands to the east: Vestre Bokn, Austre Bokn, and Ognøya. Haugaland
Haugaland or Haugalandet is a traditional district situated on the western coast of Norway. Haugaland is one of the 15 traditional districts located within the Vestlandet region. Ognøya
Ognøya or Ogn is an island in Bokn municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies between the mainland and the islands of Austre Bokn and Vestre Bokn. The islands are connected by a series of bridges as part of the European route E39 highway. The industrial area of Kårstø lies just north of Ognøya on the mainland. The island is mostly rocky and barren with little population. There is a small group of houses on the southern part of the island in the one relatively flat, arable area on the island.
