Bokk Gis Gis is a political party in Senegal, led by Pape Diop. It was principally made up of former members of the Senegalese Democratic Party, led by then-President Abdoulaye Wade, and won 4 seats in the 2012 parliamentary election. In 2017, the party rejoined Wade's coalition, Wattu Senegal, and Pape Diop won the party's lone seat in the 2017 parliamentary election. Pape Diop
Pape Diop (born 17 April 1954.) is a Senegalese politician and a leading member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) who was President of the Senate of Senegal from 2007 to 2012. He was Mayor of Dakar, the capital city, from 2002 to 2009, as well as President of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007. Diop was born in Dakar. He joined the PDS in 1974 and was Treasurer-General of the PDS from 1992 to 1997. The Senegalese Democratic Party (french: Parti démocratique sénégalais) is a political party in Senegal. The party considers itself a liberal party and is a member of the Liberal International. Abdoulaye Wade, who was President of Senegal from 2000 to 2012, is the party's leader. The PDS ruled together with smaller parties as part of the Sopi Coalition. Parliamentary elections were held in Senegal on 30 July 2017, having originally been planned for 2 July. Background The original election date was chosen on 1 December 2016 after a meeting between the President of Senegal Macky Sall and the Opposition in the National Assembly. The coalition of parties supporting President Sall, Benno Bokk Yaakaar, sought to retain the parliamentary majority it obtained in the 2012 parliamentary election. It included Sall's party, the Alliance for the Republic, as well as the Socialist Party and the Alliance of the Forces of Progress. The coalition's national candidate list was headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Dionne. The Manko Wattu Sénégal coalition is a group of several political parties organised to contest the 2017 Senegalese legislative elections. The coalition was organised and principally led by the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) of former President Abdoulaye Wade, but also included former breakaway Bokk Gis Gis and several other smaller parties. The group won 19 seats in the election, a slight increase on the 12 won by the PDS in 2012.
