Bobby A. Suarez
Roberto A. Suarez (November 27, 1942 – February 8, 2010), commonly referred to as "Bobby" or "BAS", was a Filipino film producer, director and screenwriter who achieved international recognition for movies now regarded as cult classics. Early life Suarez had a humble beginning, selling items on the street to support a sick mother and 3 younger siblings from a young age. A Kalesa operator allowed his homeless family to stay beside a horse's stable for shelter. When his mother died, Suarez and his younger brother were taken to the Manila Boy's Town, a temporary refuge for abandoned and orphaned children. Once inside the orphanage, Suarez served as an altar boy and was sent out on the streets to sell items including newspapers, Jasminum sambac, ampaguita flowers, and he also shined shoes. ''Closer to Home'' is the third studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released on June 15, 1970, by Capitol Records. Recorded at Cleveland Recording Company, the album was produced by Terry Knight. This album reached RIAA gold record status in 1970, making it the group's third gold record in one year. The album's inside artwork shows a live photo of the band performing at Madison Square Garden in February 1970. In 2002 ''Closer to Home'' was remastered on compact disc with bonus tracks and also released in a limited-edition box set ''Trunk of Funk'' that contained the band's first four albums. ''The Search for Weng Weng'' is a 2013 documentary film about Filipino actor Weng Weng (1957–1992), directed by Andrew Leavold. The film follows Leavold's quest to discover the story of the largely forgotten actor, whose real name was Ernesto de la Cruz. His starring roles were in locally produced action comedies films that found worldwide distribution in the early 1980s. Weng Weng is the shortest leading man in cinema history, standing at 83 cm. Leavold, who is Australian, decided to travel to the Philippines with a backpack and a camera and assemble every piece of information he could on the actor.
