Bob Gibbs (Australian Politician)
Robert James Gibbs (born 3 November 1946) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1977 to 1999, representing Wolston until 1992 and Bundamba thereafter. Born in Brisbane on 3 November 1946, Gibbs was a boilermaker before his election and was an organiser for the Miscellaneous Workers' Union The Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union (F.M.W.U.), commonly known as the 'Missos', was an Australian trade union which existed between 1915 and 1992. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. It has been the only unicameral state legislature in the country since the upper chamber, the Legislative Council, was abolished in 1922. Wayne Goss
Wayne Keith Goss (26 February 1951 – 10 November 2014) was Premier of Queensland from 7 December 1989 until 19 February 1996, becoming the first Labor Premier of the state in over thirty two years. Prior to entering politics, Goss was a solicitor, and after leaving politics he served as Chairman of the Queensland Art Gallery and Chairman of Deloitte Australia. Early life He was born at Mundubbera, Queensland, and grew up at Inala where he was educated at Inala State High School and the University of Queensland where he earned a bachelor of laws degree. He worked as a solicitor and then with the Aboriginal Legal Service before setting up his own practice, but did not become a member of the Australian Labor Party until the dismissal of Gough Whitlam in November 1975. The Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union (F.M.W.U.), commonly known as the 'Missos', was an Australian trade union which existed between 1915 and 1992. It represented an extremely diverse and disparate range of occupations, but its core support came from workers employed in cleaning and security services. Formation The union was first established on 6 May 1910 as the Watchmen, Caretakers and Cleaners Union of New South Wales (W.C.C.U.), which was created by the Organising Committee of the New South Wales Labor Council. The task of organisation was a difficult one due to the casualised and isolated nature of the occupations covered. Under the leadership of the first Secretary of the WCCU, Joe Coote, the union adopted a pragmatic approach to increasing union membership by including any workers not already represented by trade unions, such as paintmaking employees. The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. Electoral District Of Wolston
Wolston was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1972 to 1992. First created for the 1972 state election, the district was based in the eastern part of Ipswich, essentially replacing the abolished district of Ipswich East. Wolston was a safe seat for the Labor Party. Wolston was abolished by the 1991 redistribution; the first redistribution undertaken to comply with the one vote one value reforms. Its territory was largely divided between the new electorates of Bundamba and Inala with parts also added to the new district of Mount Ommaney.
