Bob Broome
Robert William Broome (September 14, 1916 – June 20, 1959) was an American football player and coach of football and baseball. He served as the head football coach at Appalachian State Teachers College—now known as Appalachian State University Appalachian State University (; Appalachian, App State, App, or ASU) is a public university in Boone, North Carolina. It was founded as a teachers college in 1899 by brothers B. B. and D. D. Dougherty and the latter's wife, Lillie Shull Dough ...—from 1956 to 1958, compiling a record of 13–16. 1957 NAIA Football Season
The 1957 NAIA football season was the second season of college football sponsored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The season was played from August to December 1957, culminating in the second annual NAIA Football National Championship, played this year at Stewart Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. During its four years in St. Petersburg, the game was also called the Holiday Bowl. Pittsburg State defeated in the championship game, 27–26, to win their first NAIA national title.
