Bob Acres is a small unincorporated community in rural Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States. It was established as a train station by American actor Joseph Jefferson,Benjamin McArthur, ''The Man Who Was Rip Van Winkle: Joseph Jefferson and Nineteenth-Century American Theatre'' (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2007), p. 274. who owned nearby Orange Island (now Jefferson Island, Louisiana), an inland salt dome that only appeared to be an island from a distance. Iberia Parish
Iberia Parish (french: Paroisse de l'Ibérie, es, Parroquia de Iberia) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 census, it had a population of 69,929; the parish seat is New Iberia. The parish was formed in 1868 during the Reconstruction era and named for the Iberian Peninsula. It is part of the 22-parish Acadiana region of the state, with a large Francophone population. Some of its ethnic French residents had ancestors who settled here after being expelled in the 18th century by the British from Acadia in present-day Canada. Joseph Jefferson
Joseph Jefferson III, commonly known as Joe Jefferson (February 20, 1829 – April 23, 1905), was an American actor. He was the third actor of this name in a family of actors and managers, and one of the most famous 19th century American comedians. Beginning as a young child, he continued as a performer for most of his 76 years. Jefferson was particularly well known for his adaptation and portrayal of Rip Van Winkle on the stage, reprising the role in several silent film adaptations.
