Bill Boaks
Lieutenant Commander William George Boaks (25 May 1904 – 4 April 1986) was a British Royal Navy officer who became a political campaigner for road safety. A pioneer of British eccentric political campaigning, he jointly held the record for the fewest votes recorded for a candidate in a British parliamentary election, taking five at a by-election in 1982. Early life Boaks was born in Walthamstow, into a naval family. His father, William, was a sales clerk for a fruit merchant. He was educated at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. Boaks entered the Royal Navy in 1920, aged 16, as a boy seaman, and was promoted from acting sub-lieutenant to sub-lieutenant on 1 December 1928. He was granted a temporary commission as a flying officer while on attachment to the Royal Air Force between 2 October 1930 and 7 May 1931, and was promoted to lieutenant on 1 December 1931, and to lieutenant-commander on 1 December 1939. Travis Boak (born 1 August 1988) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Boak List of Port Adelaide Football Club captains, captained the club from 2013 to 2018, and is the club's VFL/AFL games records#Club games record holders, AFL games record holder with 327 games. John Boak
John Boak (27 June 1837 – 29 October 1876) was a Scottish cricketer. Boak was a right-handed batsman bowled right-arm fast. He was born at Edinburgh and educated at the Royal High School. Boak made his only first-class appearance for Middlesex against the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's in 1873. In his only first-class match, he scored 19 runs at a batting average of 9.50, with a high score of 11. In the field he took 2 catches. With the ball he took a single wicket at a bowling average of 37.00, with best figures of 1/20. Prior to his single first-class match, Boak emigrated to Australia in 1858. While there he played initially for a combined New South Wales and Victoria in the 1861/62 season. In the 1863/64 season, Boak played for New South Wales and the following season for Queensland. Keith Boak is a British film and television director, best known for his work on several popular continuing drama series. He currently resides and works in the United States. Early life Born in Edinburgh, he attended the John Hampden High School, High Wycombe and graduated in law at the University of Bristol in 1984. His career began in the theatre, directing 'In Nomine Patris' by Paula Maggee which won a Scotsman Fringe First Award at the 1985 Edinburgh Festival and transferred to the Kings Head Theatre, London. The Willa Cather Birthplace, also known as the Rachel E. Boak House, is the site near Gore, Virginia, where the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather was born in 1873. The log home was built in the early 19th century by her great-grandfather and has been enlarged twice. The building was previously the home of Rachel E. Boak, Cather's grandmother. Cather and her parents lived in the house only about a year before they moved to another home in Frederick County. The farmhouse was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register (VLR) in 1976 and the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1978. History The house was originally owned by Cather's great-grandfather, Jacob Seibert. The original portion of the home was probably built in the 1810s.
