Bnei Sakhnin F.C.
Bnei Sakhnin F.C. ( ar, اتحاد أبناء سخنين, he, איחוד בני סכנין, ''Ihud Bnei Sakhnin''; ''Ittihad Abna Sakhnin'', ) is an Israeli football club based at the Doha Stadium in Sakhnin. They are the most successful club among the Arab-Israeli clubs in the country, having won the State Cup in 2004. History Early years The club was formed in 1991 by a merger of Maccabi Sakhnin and Hapoel Sakhnin. They were promoted to Liga Artzit (then the second tier) in 1997. In 1998–99 they finished in the relegation zone, but were reprieved when Maccabi Jaffa, who had finished bottom of the top division, were relegated three leagues due to financial problems. In 2002–03 the club finished as runners-up and promoted alongside fellow Israeli-Arab club Maccabi Ahi Nazareth, becoming the joint-second Israeli-Arab club to play in the top flight after Hapoel Tayibe. Doha Stadium
Doha Stadium ( he, אצטדיון דוחא, ''Etztadion Doḥa''; ar, ستاد دوحة) is the current home of Bnei Sakhnin. History Located in the Israeli city of Sakhnin, Doha Stadium was built with public funds largely from the State of Israel and the Qatar National Olympic Committee, and was named after the Qatari city of Doha. The decision by the Qataris to build the stadium in Israel came after a meeting between the Knesset member Ahmad Tibi and Secretary-General of the Qatar National Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud Abdulrahman Al Thani after Tibi expressed his concern on the conditions for sport in Sakhnin. The involvement of Qatar was to show that relations between the two nations are peaceful and with a similar interest. In July 2009, the north stand was opened with an additional 3,500 seats. Eyal Lahman ( he, אייל לחמן, born 29 September 1965) is an Israeli football manager. Biography Born in Petah Tikva, Lahman joined the Hapoel Petah Tikva youth system, but left the club at 16 to join Petah Tikva-based Hapoel Mahane Yehuda. He returned to Hapoel Petah Tikva aged 18, but never played for the senior team. In 1983, he was appointed manager of the children's team. He moved to Bnei Yehuda, where he coached the youth team. In 1989, he became youth team coach at Maccabi Petah Tikva. He was given his first full managerial position by Hapoel Mahane Yehuda in 1991. In 1993, he became Beitar Petah Tikva manager, before moving the Hapoel Givat Olga the following year. In 1995, he was appointed manager of Ironi Rishon LeZion, leading the club to the State Cup final in 1996, though they lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Abbas Suan
Abbas Suan (sometimes spelled Suwan or Swan, ar, عباس صوان, he, עבאס סואן, born January 27, 1976) is a retired Arab-Israeli footballer from Sakhnin in the Galilee. As a footballer he was considered by many as one of the best Israeli Arab players. He became a national hero in 2006 for scoring the game-tying goal in the 90th minute of a Football World Cup 2006 - European Qualification Groups, World Cup qualifying match against Republic of Ireland national football team, Ireland. In 2006, Suan signed a two-year contract with Maccabi Haifa but later moved to Premier League newcomers Ironi Kiryat Shmona. He returned to play for his original club Bnei Sakhnin. The Crazy Gang is a nickname coined by the English media in reference to the Wimbledon F.C. teams of the 1980s and '90s. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. 2003–04 Israeli Premier League
The 2003–04 Israeli Premier League season was held between 13 September 2003 and 22 May 2004. For the first time, there were two Israeli Arab clubs in the top division; Maccabi Ahi Nazareth and Bnei Sakhnin. Maccabi Haifa won the title, whilst Nazareth and Maccabi Netanya were relegated. Bnei Sakhnin (who qualified for Europe by winning the State Cup) became the first Arab club to spend more than a single season in the top flight. Teams and Locations Twelve teams took part in the 2003-04 Israeli Premier League season, including ten teams from the 2002-03 season, as well as two teams which were promoted from the 2002-03 Liga Leumit. Lior Asulin ( he, ליאור אסולין; born 6 October 1980) is a male Israeli footballer. Playing career Maccabi Herzliya and Ariel Shaiman A native of Ra'anana, Israel he grew up in the youth system of Maccabi Herzliya and it was there that he made the jump to Israel's highest league, Israeli Premier League but did not last long as the club was relegated just two seasons after he made the first team.
