Blythia Reticulata
''Blythia reticulata'', commonly known as Blyth's reticulate snake, Blyth's reticulated snake, or the iridescent snake, is a species of snake in the subfamily Natricinae of the family Colubridae of the superfamily Colubroidea. The species is endemic to Asia. Etymology The genus ''Blythia'' was named after Edward Blyth (1810–1873), curator of the museum of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, by William Theobald in 1868. Geographic range ''B. reticulata'' is found in India and parts of Southeast Asia. In India it is found in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya (Khasi Hills). It is also found in Myanmar (formerly called Burma) and southeastern Tibet (China). Habitat The preferred natural habitat of ''B. reticulata'' is forest. Description ''B. reticulata'' has the following scalation. The rostral scale is about as broad as deep, and is visible from above. Blythia Hmuifang
The Mizoram Ground Snake (''Blythia hmuifang''), is a species of snake in the superfamily Colubroidea. It is endemic to Mizoram, India. Etymology The specific name ''hmuifang'' came in honor of the people of the Hmuifang village. Description The species can identified from ''Blythia reticulata'', by having 114–117 ventral scales and 20–21 subcaudal scales in males. Colubroidea
Colubroidea is a superfamily of snakes in the clade Colubroides that includes Colubridae, with some studies splitting Colubridae into multiple families that make up Colubroidea. Historically, Colubroidea also included other caenophidian snakes such as cobras and vipers, as these snakes form a clade. However these groups are now divided into several distinct, but related, families. Zaher et al. (2009) proposed to redefine Colubroidea for colubrids and related families, while designating Colubroides as the group containing vipers and cobras as well as colubroids. The ReptileDatabase considers Colubroidea to be composed of Colubridae and the members of its sister group, Elapoidea, and does not recognize the division of Colubridae into multiple families. William Theobald
William Theobald (1829 – 31 March 1908) was a malacologist and naturalist on the staff of the Geological Survey of India serving in Burma, then a part of British India. Biography Very little is known of Theobald's early life. Theobald was referred to in official documents as "William Theobald, Junior". He arrived in Calcutta on the ship ''Hindostan'' via the Suez in March 1847 and worked as a volunteer in the coal exploration of the upper Damodar and Son valleys under David Williams. During this time Joseph Hooker visited him and they spent time together. Later Theobald became an assistant to John McClelland who took over the exploration from David Williams. He went to Burma in 1855 as a staff of the Geological Survey of India and took over the ''Pegu survey''.
