Bluefields Airport
Bluefields International Airport is an airport serving Bluefields, a harbor city in the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. It is the busiest airport in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. A new terminal was opened recently and extension of the runway is planned. Currently, the airport serves only domestic and small international destinations, but plans are to make it international in the future. Taxicab and bus service are available. The airport is just south of the city on the Bluefields Bay shore. North approach and departure are over the water. The runway length includes a displaced threshold on Runway 23. The Bluefields VOR/DME (ident: BLU) is located on the airfield. Bluefields
Bluefields is the capital of the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, South Caribbean Autonomous Region in Nicaragua. It was also the capital of the former Mosquito Coast, Kingdom of Mosquitia, and later the Zelaya Department, which was divided into North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, North and South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Regions. It is located on Bluefields Bay at the mouth of the Escondido River (Nicaragua), Bluefields River in the Municipalities of Nicaragua, municipality of the same name. Puerto Cabezas (; en, Bragman's Bluff; miq, Bilwi) is a municipality and city in Nicaragua. It is the capital of Miskito nation in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. The municipality and the entire region are native American lands. The city of Puerto Cabezas borders the Community of Ten Communities. History Hurricane Felix hit Puerto Cabezas on September 4, 2007, killing about 100 people. Hurricane Eta hit the city on November 3, 2020, causing extensive damage. Road transport The road infrastructure is very well spread across the Pacific side, while the Atlantic side has less infrastructure. The Cessna 208 Caravan is a utility aircraft produced by Cessna. The project was commenced on November 20, 1981, and the prototype first flew on December 9, 1982. The production model was certified by the FAA in October 1984 and its Cargomaster freighter variant was developed for FedEx. The longer 208B Super Cargomaster first flew in 1986 and was developed into the passenger 208B Grand Caravan. Limón International Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Internacional de Limón) in Limón, Costa Rica, is one of the four international airports in that country. Aerolíneas Nicaragüenses S.A., operating as Aeronica, was an airline based in Nicaragua. Headquartered in the capital Managua, it operated scheduled passenger flights within Central America, as well as to Mexico City and the United States from of its hub at the city's Augusto C. Sandino International Airport. History Aeronica was founded in 1981, as a consequence of the demise of LANICA in earlier that year. Between 1985 and 1990, when the United States embargo against Nicaragua was in effect, the airline was banned from serving the important United States market. Further, Soviet-built Tupolev TU-154M were introduced into the Aeronica fleet as spare parts for US-made aircraft such as the Boeing 707, Boeing 720B and Boeing 727 could not be acquired. Curtiss-Wright C-46 Commando
The Curtiss C-46 Commando is a twin-engine transport aircraft derived from the Curtiss CW-20 pressurised high-altitude airliner design. Early press reports used the name "Condor III" but the Commando name was in use by early 1942 in company publicity. It was used as a military transport during World War II by the United States Army Air Forces and also the U.S. Navy/Marine Corps, which called it R5C. The C-46 served in a similar role to its Douglas-built counterpart, the C-47 Skytrain, but it was not as extensively produced as the latter. After World War II, a few surplus C-46 aircraft were briefly used in their original role as passenger airliners but the glut of surplus C-47s dominated the marketplace and the C-46 was soon relegated to cargo duty. Puerto Cabezas Airport is an airport serving Puerto Cabezas, North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. It is located approximately one hour from Managua by aircraft. Operated by the state of Nicaragua, it mainly serves the city of Puerto Cabezas and Bluefields located close to the northeast corner of the country. Improvement plans There are plans to make the airport an international airport. The Airport Management Authority of Nicaragua has drawn up plans for improving the paved areas, taxiways, ramps and an air terminal. Corn Island International Airport is a civil-military public International Airport that serves Great Corn Island on the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region of Nicaragua and located in the Island's Downtown area known locally as ''Brig Bay,'' The airport is managed by the state-run Administrative Company of International Airports, more commonly known as the ''EAAI'' given its Spanish name, the ''Empresa Administradora de Aeropuertos Internacionales.''
