Blue Township, Jackson County, Missouri
Blue Township is an inactive township in Jackson County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Blue Township was established in 1827, taking its name from the Blue River. In 1930, the township included the city of Independence as well as the villages of Atherton, Sugar Creek, Courtney, Cement City, and East Independence. Civil Township
A civil township is a widely used unit of local government in the United States that is subordinate to a county, most often in the northern and midwestern parts of the country. The term town is used in New England, New York, and Wisconsin to refer to the equivalent of the civil township in these states; Minnesota uses "town" officially but often uses it and "township" interchangeably. Jackson County is located in the western portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 717,204. making it the second-most populous county in the state (after St. Louis County). Although Independence retains its status as the original county seat, Kansas City, Missouri, serves as a second county seat and the center of county government.
