Blue Stripe (foaled October 27, 2017) is a dual-hemisphere Argentine-bred multiple Graded Stakes winning Thoroughbred racehorse. Her graded wins include the Group 1 Gran Premio Criadores in Argentina and the Grade I Clement L. Hirsch Stakes in 2022 at Del Mar in Southern California. Background Blue Stripe is a bay mare, bred by La Manija in Argentina and owned by Mexican Jose Cerillo of Lomas de Chapulpepec's Pozo de Luna. Blue Stripe's sire is the Argentine bred Equal Stripes who has provided three winners of the Group 1 Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) among his progeny. He led the Argentine general sire list in 2020. His dam Blues for Sale was a Group winner in Argentina over 1200-1600 metre distances. Shedaresthedevil (foaled March 2, 2017) is an American thoroughbred racehorse, best known for winning the 2020 Kentucky Oaks, the filly equivalent of the Kentucky Derby. She also won the Honeybee Stakes and Indiana Oaks at age three, the Azeri and La Troienne Stakes at age four, and the Fleur de Lis Stakes at age five. Background Shedaresthedevil was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm. She was from the first crop sire by Daredevil, who originally stood at WinStar before being exported to Turkey for the 2020 season. In part due to the success of Shedaresthedevil, Daredevil was brought back to Lane's End Farm in the United States for 2021. Shedaresthedevil is out of Starship Warpspeed by Congrats. Caro (1967–1989) was an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Caro was a grey horse, standing . He was bred in Ireland by his owner, Countess Margit Batthyany, and trained in France with Albert Klimscha Racing career As a three-year-old in 1970, Caro won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains after the disqualification of Faraway Son. He then defeated older horses in the Prix d'Ispahan and was third in the Prix du Jockey Club. Lyphard (10 May 1969 – 10 June 2005) was an American-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and an important sire. Background American bred in Pennsylvania, Lyphard was a son of Northern Dancer out of the mare Goofed. He was auctioned as a weanling at November's Keeneland Sales to Tim Rogers, a horseman from Ireland, who then put him up for sale at Newmarket in England. There, renowned French trainer and breeder Alec Head purchased him on behalf of Madame Germaine Wertheimer, widow of the prominent French horseman and owner of the famous House of Chanel, Pierre Wertheimer. Red God (1954–1979) was a Thoroughbred race horse foaled in Kentucky who competed in England and the United States but who is best known as the sire of Blushing Groom who prominent turfman Edward L. Bowen calls one of the great international sires of the 20th century. Racing career At age two, Red God won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood Racecourse and was second in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster Racecourse after which he was brought back to the United States with plans to enter him in the American Triple Crown series. Background He was bred by American businessman John McNamee Sullivan and was raced by Aga Khan IV, HH Aga Khan IV. Santa Maria Stakes
The Santa Maria Stakes is an American Grade II Thoroughbred horse race run annually in late May at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. A race for fillies and mares age four and older, it is contested on Pro-Ride synthetic dirt over a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles (8.5 furlongs). Since the inaugural running in 1934, the Santa Maria Stakes has been contested at various distances: * 6 furlongs: 1934–1936, 1938–1940 * 3 furlongs: 1941 * 8 furlongs (1 mile): 1946, 1947, 1952–1953 * 7 furlongs: 1954–1956 * 8.5 furlongs ( miles): 1957–present The Santa Maria was run as a handicap from 1952 through 2010 and was raced in two divisions in 1983 and 1984.
