Blue Nile (band)
The Blue Nile was a Scottish band which originated in Glasgow. The group's early music was built heavily on synthesizers and electronic instrumentation and percussion, although later works featured guitar more prominently. Following early championing by established artists such as Rickie Lee Jones and Peter Gabriel (the band later worked with both acts), the Blue Nile gained critical acclaim, particularly for its first two albums ''A Walk Across the Rooftops'' and ''Hats'', and some commercial success in both the UK and the US, which led to the band working with a wide range of musicians from the late 1980s onwards. The Blue Nile's highest chart placement came when "Tinseltown in the Rain" reached No. 28 in the Netherlands in 1984, their only Dutch charting song. The band has had four top 75 hits on the UK Singles Chart, the highest being " Saturday Night" which reached No. 50 in 1991. A Walk Across The Rooftops
''A Walk Across the Rooftops'' is the debut album by Scottish band The Blue Nile, released on 30 April 1984 on Linn Records in the UK and on A&M Records in the US. Although the album was released to little fanfare and was not a big hit on its initial release, it slowly accumulated fans and sales through word of mouth as the years passed, and by the time the follow-up ''Hats'' was released in 1989, ''A Walk Across the Rooftops'' had sold 80,000 copies. It continued to gather praise when reissued in 2012. Sleep (Texas Song)
"Sleep" is a song by Scottish band Texas, released as the third and final single from their seventh studio album, '' Red Book'' (2005), on 9 January 2006. The song features Paul Buchanan from fellow Scottish musical group the Blue Nile. "Sleep" was released on 9 January 2006 in three different formats: two audio CD singles and a DVD single. The song peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart, and as of 2021, it remains their last UK top-40 hit. "Take Your Mama" from CD2 is a cover version of the song by Scissor Sisters. A free, limited-edition slip-case was made available by mail to house all three formats. Music video The music video was directed by Peter Kay and featured him as well as Sian Gibson. ''High'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish band The Blue Nile, released on 30 August 2004 on Sanctuary Records. A single, "I Would Never", was released one week prior to the album: a second song, "She Saw the World", was made available as a promotional single, but never released officially. "The Downtown Lights" is a song by Scottish band The Blue Nile, released in 1989 as the lead single from their second studio album ''Hats''. It was written by Paul Buchanan and produced by the band. "The Downtown Lights" reached No. 67 in the UK and remained in the charts for three weeks. It also reached No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart.
