Blue (video)
''Blue'' is the first DVD by Canadian electronic rock band, The Birthday Massacre. The DVD consist of the Dan Ouellette and Robert Morris created video Blue and also includes behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, a studio performance of "Nevermind," as well as live performances of "Violet" and "Video Kid" by Steve Jones. It was released in the United States and Canada on August 1, 2005, by Repo Records and Metropolis Records. The title video was directed by Dan Ouellette, who later directed the band's Looking Glass video and has directed and/or done production work for videos by (among others) David Bowie and Android Lust. The video's special effects were created by Ouellette and Robert Morris, with the featured dolls and puppets created by Scott Radke. "Nevermind" was directed by Steve Jones of Toronto, with effects by Mike Spicer. The Birthday Massacre
The Birthday Massacre (abbreviated TBM) is a Canadian rock band , formed in 1999 in London, Ontario, and currently based in Toronto, Ontario. The current lineup consists of lead vocalist Sara 'Chibi' Taylor, rhythm guitarist Michael Rainbow, lead guitarist Michael Falcore, keyboardist Owen Mackinder, drummer Philip Elliott, and bassist Brett Carruthers. When the band formed in 1999, they were known as 'Imagica'. This name was inspired by the 1991 fantasy novel ''Imajica'' by Clive Barker. In 2002, they changed the name to The Birthday Massacre after one of their earlier songs in order to avoid confusion with another group. The song ''The Birthday Massacre'' was then renamed ''Happy Birthday''. According to their vocalist Chibi: "it kind of works well for the music that we're making. Sort of contrasty, you know? Dan Ouellette
Dan Ouellette is an American artist, illustrator, director, author and production designer. He began drawing as a child inspired by Escher, Dalí and Moebius. His drawings usually begin with very rough sketches and are intended to capture a moment of tension or eroticism. His art pushes his audience into areas where people feel less than comfortable, stating that the "US which is so puritanical, our bodies are usually a great source of anxiety and fear". As a production designer, he has designed over fifteen independent feature films in the past decade as well as numerous commercials and music videos. He is best known as the director for the music videos ''Blue'' and '' Looking Glass'' by The Birthday Massacre, receiving over 4 million combined views on YouTube, and has directed music videos for the industrial band Android Lust. Android Lust is the solo project of Shikhee D’iordna, that combines elements of rock, electropop, electro-industrial and classical styles into a blend of music that she describes as "electronic and dark." History Shikhee D’iordna was born in Bangladesh, but grew up in England and the USA. In 1999, she moved to New York City. Prior to 1995, D’iordna was a member of couple of different rock-oriented bands. At the end of 1995 after one of these bands split up, D’iordna sought to begin a new project but gave up on finding compatible bandmates and resumed as a solo project.
