Bloomville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Kortright, Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 213 at the 2010 census. Geography Bloomville is located in the West Branch Delaware River valley, north of the Catskill Mountains. Administratively part of Kortright, the Bloomville CDP has according to the United States Census Bureau, has a total area of , all land. Bloomville is in the southwestern corner of Kortright. New York State Route 10 passes through the hamlet, leading southwest to Delhi, the county seat, and northeast to Stamford. The west end of the Catskill Scenic Trail, a rail-trail following the route of the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad, is in Bloomville. West Branch Delaware River
The West Branch Delaware River is one of two branches that form the Delaware River. It is approximately 90 mi (144 km) long, and flows through the U.S. states of New York and Pennsylvania. It winds through a mountainous area of New York in the western Catskill Mountains for most of its course, before joining the East Branch along the northeast border of Pennsylvania with New York. The Ulster and Delaware Railroad (U&D) was a railroad located in the state of New York. It was often advertised as "The Only All-Rail Route to the Catskill Mountains." At its greatest extent, the U&D extended from Kingston Point on the Hudson River through the Catskill Mountains to its western terminus at Oneonta, passing through the counties of Ulster, Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego. History Rondout and Oswego Railroad During the early 19th century, waterways formed the principal transportation network in New York. An important point on this network was Rondout. The Catskill Scenic Trail is a multi-use rail trail along the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad right-of-way in rural Delaware County, New York. Stamford is a village in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 1,119 at the 2010 census. The village is located partly in the town of Stamford and partly in the town of Harpersfield. The village is on routes 23 and 10. The village has termed itself the "Queen of the Catskills". History The area was visited by farmers and trappers in the 18th century. The village was incorporated in 1870. New York State Route 10 (NY 10) is a north–south state highway in the Central New York and North Country regions of New York in the United States. It extends for from the Quickway ( NY 17) (Future Interstate 86) in Deposit, Delaware County to NY 8 at Higgins Bay, a hamlet in the Hamilton County town of Arietta.
