Block and Sully were an American husband and wife vaudeville team who performed during the years 1926 to 1948. Vaudeville Jesse Block started performing in vaudeville as a child, getting his first break as a member of Gus Edwards' ''Song Revue of 1915''. Later, he developed a song-and-dance act and toured for four years as "Block and Dunlap". In 1926, he was introduced to Eve Sully by Bert Gordon. Sully was touring in a song-and-dance act with Blossom MacDonald, sister of Jeanette MacDonald, but she soon joined Block to form a crosstalk comedy act. The couple married in 1930. Block and Sully toured together for three years before they played the Palace Theatre for the first time in 1929, and headlined there both in April and October 1930. Later life In the early 1930s, Block and Sully ventured into radio and had their own program. One of the cast members was a young Arlene Francis. Gus Edwards (vaudeville)
Gustave Edwards (August 18, 1878 – November 7, 1945) was an American composer, songwriter and film director. He also was a vaudevillian, organised his own theatre companies and was a music publisher. Early life Edwards was the son of Morris and Johanna Simon. He was born Gustav Schmelowsky in Inowrazlaw, German Empire (present-day Inowrocław, Poland). His family boarded the steamship ''Spaarndam'' as steerage passengers; they arrived at the Port of New York on 29 July 1891 ending up in Williamsburg. During the day, he worked in the family cigar store, and in the evenings, he wandered looking for any sort of show business job. He found work as a singer at various lodge halls, on ferry boat lounges, in saloons, and even between bouts at the athletic clubs. As a very young boy, Edwards worked as a song plugger at Koster and Bial's, at Tony Pastor's theatre, and at the Bowery Theatre. Edith Marie Blossom MacDonald (August 21, 1895 – January 14, 1978), also known as Blossom Rock, was an American actress of vaudeville, stage, film and television. During her career she was also billed as Marie Blake or Blossom MacDonald. Her younger sister was screen actress and singer Jeanette MacDonald. The Palace Theatre is a Broadway theater at 1564 Broadway, facing Times Square, in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Designed by Milwaukee architects Kirchoff & Rose, the theater was funded by Martin Beck and opened in 1913.
