The Bloch MB.300 ''Pacifique'' (a.k.a. ''La Grosse Julie'', "Big Julie") was a French all-metal three-engine monoplane that was developed to enter service as an Air France airliner. The Société des Avions Marcel Bloch was a French Aerospace manufacturer, aircraft manufacturer of military and civilian aircraft. It was founded by the aeronautical designer Marcel Dassault, Marcel Bloch (hence "MB" in the aircraft designations), who had previously played a major role in the Société d'Études Aéronautiques, an early French aircraft manufacturer active largely during the First World War. Following the end of the Second World War, Marcel Bloch changed his name to Marcel Dassault (as in ''char d'assaut'', French for "tank") to honour the nom de guerre, military nickname adopted by his brother, Darius Paul Dassault. Constructions Aéronautiques Émile Dewoitine was a French aircraft manufacturer established by Émile Dewoitine at Toulouse in October 1920. The company's initial products were a range of metal parasol-wing fighters which were largely ignored by the French Air Force but purchased in large quantities abroad and licence-built in Italy, Switzerland, and Czechoslovakia. The company was liquidated in January 1927, with the only remaining active programme (the D.27) being transferred to EKW in Switzerland. The company was re-established in Paris in March the following year as Société Aéronautique Française (Avions Dewoitine) or SAF. The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 ''Condor'', also known as ''Kurier'' to the Allies (English: Courier), was a German all-metal four-engined monoplane originally developed by Focke-Wulf as a long-range airliner. A Japanese request for a long-range maritime patrol aircraft led to military versions that saw service with the ''Luftwaffe'' as long-range reconnaissance and anti-shipping/maritime patrol bomber aircraft. The Luftwaffe also made extensive use of the Fw 200 as a transport aircraft. It achieved success as a commerce raider until mid-1941, by which time it was being harried by long-range RAF Coastal Command aircraft and the Hurricane fighters being flown from CAM ships.
