José Ruiz Y Blasco
José Ruiz y Blasco (12 April 1838 – 3 May 1913) was a Spanish painter, an art teacher, and the father of artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881–1973). Family life José Ruiz y Blasco was born in Málaga, Spain in 1838 and grew up in a middle-class family. At 42 years of age, he married María Picasso López (1855-1938), who was 17 years younger than him. The couple had three children; Pablo was born on 25 October 1881, Dolores, who was nicknamed "Lola", was born in 1884, and Conception, who was nicknamed "Conchita", was born in 1887. When Pablo was 13 years old, Conchita died at the age of seven from diphtheria. The Avenida de Blasco Ibañez is an avenue in the Spanish city of Valencia named after Spanish writer and journalist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (1867 – 1928), who was originally from Valencia. The Avenida leads from the Jardines del Real in the west to the Poblats Marítims in the east. Plans to extend the Avenida to the sea have existed for a long time, but have not been realized. History Originally envisioned as a jardin street under the name of "camino-paseo hasta el mar" the project was approved by law on 1 August 1893. The aim of the street was to link the Jardines del Real in the west to the Poblats Marítims in the east of the city. A first design was made by Casimiro Meseguer who intended to make the street part of a green city plan he called "Ciudad Jardín". Meseguer finished his plan in 1895. Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (, 29 January 1867 – 28 January 1928) was a journalist, politician and bestselling Spanish novelist in various genres whose most widespread and lasting fame in the English-speaking world is from Hollywood films that were adapted from his works. Biography He was born in Valencia. At university, he studied law and graduated in 1888 but never went into practice since he was more interested in politics, journalism and literature. He was a particular fan of Miguel de Cervantes. In politics, he was a militant Republican partisan in his youth, and he founded the newspaper ''El Pueblo'' (translated as ''The People'') in his hometown. The newspaper aroused so much controversy that it was taken to court many times. In 1896, he was arrested and sentenced to a few months in prison. Ruth Hall (born Ruth Gloria Blasco Ibáñez; December 29, 1910 – October 9, 2003) was an American film actress. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Hall was a 1929 graduate of Henry B. Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. Hall was a great-niece of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, the Spanish novelist. She took her mother's maiden name as her professional name so as not to benefit from the novelist's more celebrated last name. In 1931, she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures. Personal life She was married to cinematographer Lee Garmes from 1933 until his death on August 31, 1978; the couple had two daughters. Ruth Hall died in Glendale, California, aged 92. Miguel Blasco is a music producer and songwriter. Born in Spain. When he was 16 years old, he joined his first rock band and moved to Ibiza in 1963 through the first years of the musical movement called "beatnic", before the "hippies". On stage, he joined Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones, Willy Brook (drum player for Jimmy Smith), Emilio Sangaro, Ian Anderson, among others, in the only night club in the island. Later he appeared on a "Marcofestival" in Barcelona and began to write musical scores for Catalan films. He also joined Jimi Hendrix on "Club Babalu" in 1966 and discovered singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat. He was forced to join the army in 1969, staying off the stages for 18 months. Michele Blasco (1607–1661) was an Italian painter and architect, active in his native Sicily, mainly painting in sacred subjects in a Baroque style. Biography Born in Sciacca to family originally from Spain, he was initially enrolled in religious studies locally, then in Girgenti and finally Catania.
