Blandford United Football Club is a football club based in Blandford Forum, Dorset, England. The club was a founding member of the Dorset Combination in 1957. The club is affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association and is a FA chartered Standard club. They are currently members of the . They play their games at Blandford Recreation Ground. History The club was formed on October 1, 1882 and were inaugural members of the South Hants and Dorset Football Association in 1884, which became part of the Dorset FA in 1887. In 1896–97 the club became founder members of the Dorset League, finishing in fifth place out of eight. They stayed there up and till the First World War when football was suspended in the Dorset league and returned to the League after the First World War in 1919–20 finishing fourth place out of nine. Blandford Forum
Blandford Forum ( ), commonly Blandford, is a market town in Dorset, England, sited by the River Stour, Dorset, River Stour about northwest of Poole. It was the administrative headquarters of North Dorset District until April 2019, when this was abolished and its area incorporated into the new Dorset (unitary authority), Dorset unitary authority. Blandford is notable for its Georgian architecture, the result of rebuilding after the majority of the town was destroyed by a fire in 1731. The rebuilding work was assisted by an Act of Parliament and a donation by George II of Great Britain, George II, and the rebuilt town centre—to designs by local architects Bastard brothers, John and William Bastard—has survived to the present day largely intact. The Dorset Premier Football League is a football league based in Dorset, England, which sits at Step 7 of the National League System, or level 11 of the overall English football league system. History The league was formed in 1957 under the name Dorset Football Combination League when a number of senior clubs within the county became disillusioned at being dictated to by junior and minor clubs. The objective of the league on its formation was to increase the standard of football and competition throughout Dorset and neighbouring counties, an ideal that still holds today. In 1991 the Dorset Football Combination League accepted an invitation to become a feeder to the Wessex League, thus giving its member clubs the opportunity to progress through the National League System. The Dorset County Football Association is the County Football Association for Dorset. The Dorset County FA traces its root back to the South Hants and Dorset Football Association which was founded in 1884. Three years later in 1887, due to the growth of football in the area, the South Hants and Dorset FA split into the Dorset County Football Association and the Hampshire Football Association. Boscombe is a suburb of Bournemouth, England. Historic counties of England, Historically in Hampshire, but today in Dorset, it is located to the east of Bournemouth town centre and west of Southbourne, Dorset, Southbourne. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. George Bristow (footballer)
George Andrew Bristow (25 June 1933 – 3 January 2010) was an English professional footballer who played as a right half in the Football League for Brentford. He made over 260 appearances in all competitions and was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in May 2015. Career Brentford A right half, Bristow joined Brentford at a young age and came through the youth ranks to make his debut at the age of 17 in a 4–0 Second Division defeat to Manchester City on 14 October 1950. During his National Service, Bristow turned down a move to follow former teammate Peter Broadbent to First Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
