Selborne
Selborne is a village in Hampshire, England, south of Alton, Hampshire, Alton, and just within the northern boundary of the South Downs National Park. The village receives visitors because of its links with the naturalist Revd. Gilbert White, a pioneer of birdwatching. The village St Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed church that dates back to the late 12th century. There is a primary school, and a Village Stores & Post Office (currently closed and For Sale). Furthermore, there is one public house the "Selborne Arms". A bus service that runs through the village links it to Alton, Hampshire, Alton and Petersfield. East Hampshire
East Hampshire is a local government district in Hampshire, England. Its council is based in Petersfield. Other towns are Alton and Bordon. The district was originally to be known as the District Council of Petersfield. It comprised 42 seats and first met on 18 June 1973. For ten months it operated alongside the councils that it was formed to replace: the Alton and Petersfield urban districts along with Alton Rural District and Petersfield Rural District. On 8 October 1973, the new council changed its name to the current East Hampshire District Council (or EHDC as it is usually known). On 1 April 1974, the old councils were dissolved, leaving only EHDC. Sandy Hopkins was the first joint Chief Executive in Hampshire when she was appointed to head both EHDC and Havant Borough Council in October 2009. Liss, Hampshire
Liss (previously spelt Lys or Lyss) is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, 3.3 miles (5.3 km) north-east of Petersfield, on the A3 road, on the West Sussex border. It covers 3,567 acres (14 km2) of semi-rural countryside in the South Downs National Park. Liss railway station is on the Portsmouth Direct Line. The village comprises an old village at West Liss and a modern village round the 19th-century station. They are divided by the River Rother. Suburbs later spread towards Liss Forest. Bordon, Hampshire
Bordon is a town in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It lies in the interior of the royal Woolmer Forest, about southeast of Alton. The town forms a part of the civil parish of Whitehill which is one of two contiguous villages, the other being Lindford. The civil parish is on the A325, and near the A3 road between London and Portsmouth, from which it is buffered by the rise of the wooded Woolmer Ranges. Bordon is twinned with Condé-sur-Vire in Normandy, France. Unlike its nearest towns, Petersfield, Farnham and Alton, Bordon has not been a market town, having developed as a military area. Many of the facilities are on or near the A325, a former toll road (turnpike) that connects Farnham to the A3 to its south. Liss Railway Station
Liss railway station is a stop on the Portsmouth Direct Line, serving the village of Liss in Hampshire, England, down the line from via Woking. As a small station, for most of the day there is one train each way (to Portsmouth and London) an hour. The station is managed by South Western Railway, which operates all trains serving it. The station had a platform adjacent to the main line, which was the southern terminus of the Longmoor Military Railway. The former station goods yard connected to the LMR via Liss Junction. St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor
St Matthew's Church is an Anglican parish church in the village of Blackmoor, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building. The church was designed by Alfred Waterhouse for Roundell Palmer, later 1st Earl of Selborne (1882). History Background The earliest record of a chapel in Blackmoor comes from a tithe return of 1254, which states that the parish of Selborne was owed returns from chapels in both Blackmoor and neighbouring Oakhanger. In 1291, a tax return for the ''ecclesia de Seleburne cum capella'' covered the Blackmoor chapel, and the prior and convent of Selborne were said to be "the impropriators of the parish church of Seleborne with the chapels of Oakhanger and Blakemere ic in a 1352 vicarial portion.
