African Swedish include naturalized citizens and residents of Sweden who were born in Africa. As of 2020, there are 236,975 people in Sweden who were born in Africa. History African immigrants have been living in Sweden since the 17th century, but in very few numbers. In 1900, there were 79 Africans in Sweden, of which 5, all South Africans, were citizens. One of the early documented Africans in Sweden was Gustav Badin, (1747 or 1750 to 1822), a black court-servant and diarist, originally a slave, butler of Queen of Sweden, Louisa Ulrika and later Princess Sophia Albertine of Sweden. Badin was not the only African swede during the 18th century. There were blacks in the royal regiments, one of them was the trumpeter Richard Abramsson who was born in the US. Gustav Badin
Adolf Ludvig Gustav Fredrik Albert Badin né ''Couchi'', known as Badin (1747 or 1750 – 1822) was a Swedish court servant (Kammermohr) and diarist. Originally a slave, he was the foster son and servant of Queen Louisa Ulrika of Sweden and a servant to his foster sister Princess Sophia Albertine of Sweden. His original name was Couchi, but he was commonly known as ''Badin'' ('mischief-maker' or 'trickster'). Early life Badin was born either in Africa or in the Danish island Saint Croix. He himself said that the only thing he remembered about his past was his parents' hut burning, but it is not known whether this happened in Africa or in Saint Croix. It is known that he lived in Saint Croix during his childhood. He was taken to Europe, probably on a Danish East Indies ship, from where he was bought by a Danish captain, who gave him to statesman Anders von Resier sv, who, in turn, gave him as a present to the Queen of Sweden, Louisa Ulrika of Prussia, in 1757. Carl Johan Dawid "David" Fjäll is a Swedish television presenter and sports journalist working for SVT. Born in the Ethiopian Empire, modern-day Eritrea (just days before Haile Selassie was deposed by the Derg), Fjäll was to adopted to Sweden when he was four months old and grew up in Sigtuna. He started his career at ''King'', an advertising agency in London. He began his television career at channel ''MediTV'' and later ''Fan TV''. Marcus Samuelsson
25 January 1971) is an Ethiopian-born Swedish-American celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality. He is the head chef of Red Rooster in Harlem, New York. Early life and education Kassahun Joar Tsegie was born in Ethiopia. His father, Tsegie, is an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church priest. Marika Aychesh Carlsson (born 19 March 1973) is a Swedish standup comedian and TV-personality. Background Carlsson was born in Ethiopia and was adopted by a Swedish couple at age two. She grew up in the town of Lund in Sweden's Skåne province. Carlsson studied theatre and acting in Gothenburg before moving to Stockholm to break into the standup comedy circuit.
