Black Roses (1921 Film)
''Black Roses'' is a 1921 American crime drama film directed by Colin Campbell. Sessue Hayakawa, Myrtle Stedman, Tsuru Aoki, Andrew Robson, and Toyo Fujita appeared in the film. Plot As described in a film magazine, when Benson Burleigh (Robson) is found murdered with his gardener Yoda (Hayakawa) beside him with a knife in his hand, the police conclude that Yoda is guilty. While in prison Yoda learns that 'Monocle' Harry (Herbert), Blanche De Vore (Stedman), and Wong Fu (Fujita) framed him of the crime. When the opportunity arrives, with the assistance of his fellow convicts he steals a locomotive while its crew is eating lunch and uses it to burst through the prison yard gates. He drives the locomotive at full speed until they outrun an automobile full of prison guards. With money provided by a fellow cellmate, he poses as a wealthy Japanese nobleman. He outwits the trio of criminals and frees his wife Blossom (Aoki), whom they had kidnapped, and turns them over to the police. ... Colin Campbell (director)
James Colin Campbell (11 October 1859 – 26 August 1928) was a Scottish-born film director, actor and screenwriter. He directed more than 170 films between 1911 and 1924. He also wrote for 60 films between 1911 and 1922. He was born in Scotland, and died in Hollywood, California. Harold Holland
Harold Holland (May 12, 1885 – September 27, 1974) was a British theatre and silent film actor and playwright. He was born in Bloomsbury, London. He played Dr. Rogers in the 1913 film '' Riches and Rogues'', and took the lead role of Dr. Thomas "Tom" Flynn in the 1914 comedy '' The Lucky Vest''. After having worked on Charlie Chaplin films including ''Shanghaied'' and '' The Bank'' in 1915, he was hired by the Morosco Photoplay Company in 1916 as it expanded. Before and after working in silent films, Holland had a theatre career in the United Kingdom. His West End roles include ''Bella Donna'', ''One-Act Plays'', and ''Treasure Island''.
