Black Lightning (Jeff Pierce) is a superhero who appears in American comic book published by DC Comics. The character, created by writer Tony Isabella with artist Trevor Von Eeden, first appeared in ''Black Lightning'' #1 (April 1977), during the Bronze Age of Comic Books. Although his precise origin story has varied over the years, he is generally depicted as a metahuman superhero who uses the ability to generate and control electricity to defend his community – and the world – as Black Lightning. Although not the first black superhero to be featured in DC Comics stories, Black Lightning was DC's first African Americans, African-American superhero to headline his own series. In his earliest stories, Black Lightning was depicted as a schoolteacher from the crime-ridden Suicide Slum area of Metropolis (comics), Metropolis who acquires electrical superpowers from a technologically advanced power belt that he put to use to clean up crime in his neighborhood. Clayton Henry
Clayton Henry is a comic book artist, known mostly for his work for Marvel Comics. His first known works were providing the art on ''Nine Rings Of Wu-Tang'' and ''Area 52'', and has since worked on such series as '' Exiles'', ''Alpha Flight'', '' New X-Men: Hellions'', '' X-Men: Apocalypse vs. Dracula'', and currently ''Uncanny X-Men''. Early life Born in Mandeville, Jamaica, Henry moved to the U.S. when he was three. His father, an artist himself amazed Clayton with a picture of a car he saw him draw. He began drawing at 4 and at age 9 he was drawn into the world of comics with a copy of ''Uncanny X-Men'' #201. He attended art schools from 4th grade through 12th grade and much of college. Career After a brief stint in independent comics with the aforementioned Wu-Tang and '' Area 52'' comics Henry spent his time making ends meet.
