Black Diamond Australian Football League
The AFL Hunter Central Coast is an Australian rules football competition in the Newcastle, Hunter Region and Central Coast regions of New South Wales. The Black Diamond Australian Football league was formed in 2000 and ran until the end of the 2018 season. Following the end of the 2018 season, the league was disbanded and a new league under the AFL NSW/ACT banner was formed; AFL Hunter Central Coast (AFLHCC). Teams in the AFLHCC's top division still play for the Black Diamond Cup. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Killarney Vale Australian Football Club
The Killarney Vale Australian Football Club, nicknamed the ''Bombers'', is an Australian rules football club that competes in the AFL Hunter Central Coast competition. The club is based in the Central Coast suburb of Killarney Vale and plays its home games at Adelaide Street Oval, Tumbi Umbi. History The club was founded in 1978 with a meeting in the Tumbi Umbi Preschool and played in the Central Coast Australian Football League. They were known as the 'Bunyips' and wore a red, gold and black striped jumper until 1981 when they adopted the 'Bombers' nickname and changed their guernsey to the current red sash. The Terrigal-Avoca Australian Football Club, nicknamed the ''Panthers'', is an Australian rules football club based in East Gosford, New South Wales, Australia. The Panthers play in the AFL Hunter Central Coast competition. Club history The TAAFC was founded in 1976 and was a founding member of the former Central Coast Australian Football League. The club's search for players to field their inaugural team included eight players from Gosford who had just recently departed from the CCAFL's sister league, the Newcastle Australian Football League, in 1975. The Panthers saw success early, winning the inaugural CCAFL premiership in a closely fought win over Gosford. Newcastle Number 1 Sports Ground is a multi-use stadium located in Newcastle, New South Wales, and has a nominated capacity of approximately 10,000. It neighbours Newcastle Number 2 Sports Ground. Cricket It is currently used mostly for cricket matches, located within National Park. The ground first hosted First-class cricket in 1981 when New South Wales played Queensland. The Newcastle City Australian Football Club, nicknamed the ''Blues'', is an Australian rules football club that is based in Newcastle, New South Wales, and currently competes in the AFL Hunter Central Coast league. The club is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the AFLHCC. Club history Australian rules football was first introduced to the Hunter Region by Ballarat gold miners John, Jim and George Duguid in the early 1880s with the first clubs being Newcastle City, Northumberland, Wallsend & Plattsburg, Singleton and Lambton. Matches between clubs were privately organised between clubs. But despite the game's promising start in terms of gaining a foothold within the region the sport had died out due to lack of players and support due to the decline of coalmines in Newcastle and the effects of the depression at the time in the mid 1890s.
