Bismil Azimabadi
Bismil Azimabadi (1901 20 June 1978) was an Indian freedom fighter, landlord, and an Urdu poet from Patna, the capital of Bihar. Family Bismil Azimabadi's real name was Syed Shah Mohammad Hasan, he was born in 1901 at Azimabad (Mughal name of Patna) in Bihar. He belonged to a family of zamindars and they initially resided at Nawada but later settled in Patna. Syed Shah Aale Hasan a barrister was his father, he died at an early age of Bismil. His grandfather, Mubarak Azimabadi was an Urdu language poet and writer. His maternal Grandfather Shah Mubarak Kakvi ''Azimabadi'' and his maternal uncle, Khan Bahadur Syed Shah Afzal khan alias ''Shah Kamal'' both were poets and were disciple of famous poet of Allahabad named ''Khan Allahabadi''. Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library
Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library, in Patna, Bihar, is one of the national libraries of India. It was opened to the public on the 29th of October in 1891 by HMJ Sir Khan Bahadur Khuda Bakhsh. Its collection started with 4,000 of Bakhsh's own manuscripts, of which he inherited 1,400 from his father, Sir Mohammed Bakhsh, a lawyer from Patna. The library currently has a very significant collection of Islamic, Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu, Hindi and Kashmiri manuscripts, and art. This includes 35,000 manuscripts (21,000 rare manuscripts and 14,000 small manuscripts), 2,082,904 printed books in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Pushto, Sanskrit, Hindi, Punjabi, English, French, German, Russian, and Japanese. Shad Azimabadi
Shad Azimabadi (8 Jan 1846–7 Jan 1927) was an Indian poet and writer from Azimabad, Patna, Bihar. He studied not only his own faith, Islam, but also Hinduism and Christianity. He excelled in ghazal and marsiya compositions. Urdu scholar, Ali Jawad Zaidi has described him as "a saviour of the ghazal by imparting it with a new mellowness stimulating perception and lyrical realism". Due to his social standing as a laureate, he held several administrative posts in Patna including as a Honorary Magistrate and also as Municipal Commissioner of Patna. Khan Bahadur
Khan Bahadur – a compound of khan ('leader') and bahadur ('brave') – was a formal title of respect and honor, which was conferred exclusively on Muslim and other non-Hindu natives of British India. It was one degree higher than the title of Khan Sahib. The title was conferred on individuals for faithful service or acts of public welfare to the Empire. Recipients were entitled to prefix the title to their name and were presented with a special Title Badge and a citation (or ''sanad''). Nawada
Nawada is a city and a municipality in Bihar, India. It is also the headquarters of the Nawada district. It is the headquarters of the subdivision of the same name, lying on both sides of the Khuri River( also known as Sakri river in some parts) at 24º 53’ N and 85º 33’ E. Zamindars Of Bihar
The Zamindars of Bihar were the autonomous and semi-autonomous rulers and administrators of the Mughal subah of Bihar and later during British rule. The zamindars of Bihar were numerous and could be divided into small, medium and large depending on how much land they controlled. Within Bihar, the zamindars had both economic and military power. Each zamindari would have their own standing army which was typically composed of their own clansmen. The majority of these zamindars usually belonged to upper-caste Hindu communities such as Rajputs, Maithil Brahmins, Bhumihars, Kayasthas or Muslims.
