''Birthright Campaign Setting'' is an accessory for the 2nd edition of the ''Advanced Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game, published in 1995. This product introduced the Birthright campaign setting. Contents The ''Birthright Campaign Setting'' contains three books, a gamemaster's screen, two maps, over 100 cards to use for resolving large battles, and 12 reference cards, all of which are in full color. The set includes a new combat system for large fantasy army battles, where cards represent regiments and a position sheet indicate which side is holding the line and which is on the flank. The set includes the concept of bloodlines, magical powers gained from a family line which tie them a domain, and in which strong bloodlines produce natural leaders; these powerful characters have the awnsheghlien as powerful foes, champions coming from the world's evil bloodlines. A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game, RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of player character, characters in a fictional Setting (narrative), setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Birthright is the concept of things being due to a person upon or by fact of their birth, or due to the order of their birth. These may include rights of citizenship based on the place where the person was born or the citizenship of their parents, and inheritance rights to property owned by parents or others. Powergaming (or power gaming or optimization) is a style of interacting with games or game-like systems, particularly video games, boardgames, and, role-playing games, with the aim of maximizing progress towards a specific goal. Scott D. Haring is a game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Career Scott Haring began working in the adventure gaming industry in 1982. Haring had a long career with Steve Jackson Games, having worked at the company five different times over a period of 15 years. Haring has worked as the ''Car Wars'' line editor, and became editor on the new magazine '' Autoduel Quarterly'' when it debuted in 1983. Origins Award
The Origins Awards are American awards for outstanding work in the game industry. They are presented by the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design at the Origins Game Fair on an annual basis for the previous year, so (for example) the 1979 awards were given at the 1980 Origins. The Origins Award is commonly referred to as a Calliope, as the statuette is in the likeness of the muse of the same name. Academy members frequently shorten this name to "Callie". Colin McComb
Colin McComb (born May 1970) is an American writer and game designer, who is best known for his work designing the Planescape setting for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game, and as the creative lead for the role-playing video game '' Torment: Tides of Numenera''. Career history Immediately after his commencement, McComb took at a job at TSR, Inc., where he produced numerous role-playing game supplements and magazine articles relating to those games. Richard Baker (full name L. Richard Baker III) is an American author and game designer who has worked on many ''Dungeons & Dragons'' campaign settings. Early life, education, and military Rich Baker was born and raised in Florida, then moved with his family to New Jersey at age ten. Baker graduated from Virginia Tech in 1988 with a degree in English. TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. A gamemaster's screen, also called a GM's screen, is a gaming accessory, usually made out of either cardboard or card stock, and is used by the gamemaster to hide all the relevant data related to a tabletop role-playing game session from the players in order to not spoil the plot of the story. It also hides any dice rolls made by the gamemaster that players should not see. In addition, screens often have essential tables and information printed on the inside for the gamemaster to easily reference during play. It is based on the continent of ''Cerilia'' on the world of ''Aebrynis'', in which the players take on the role of the divinely-empowered rulers, with emphasis on the political rulership level of gameplay.
