Birthday Honours 2008
The Queen's Birthday Honours 2008 were appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June. Commonwealth Realm
A Commonwealth realm is a sovereign state in the Commonwealth of Nations whose monarch and head of state is shared among the other realms. Each realm functions as an independent state, equal with the other realms and nations of the Commonwealth. King Charles III succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as monarch of each Commonwealth realm following her death on 8 September 2022. Philip Hunter (educationist)
Sir Philip John Hunter CBE (born 1939, Northumberland) is an English educationist who was the Schools Adjudicator for England from 2002 to 2009. Early life He passed the eleven plus, but as the nearest grammar school was too distant, he went to the Quaker School, Ackworth School (boarding school) in Yorkshire. He studied Zoology at Kings College, Newcastle. Career He lectured and undertook research for two years at the University of Khartoum in Sudan then for three years at the Agricultural Research Council (became the AFRC in 1983 then the BBSRC in 1994) in Cambridge. His research was into the effects of pesticide on slugs and snails, and the spread of the disease Bilharzia. He worked at the DES and Civil Service College (now known as the National School of Government) for ten years, including serving as Principal Private Secretary to two Secretaries of State. Paul Robert Stephenson
Sir Paul Robert Stephenson (born 26 September 1953) is a British retired police officer who was the Metropolitan Police Commissioner from 2009 to 2011. Stephenson joined the Lancashire police in 1975 and attended the Bramshill staff training course. As a superintendent, he was closely involved in the inquiry into the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster. Sir Michael John Snyder (born 30 July 1950) is a British businessman and politician. He is Metropolitan Grand Master of the Freemasons of London. The Better Regulation Executive is a part of the British Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. It is in charge of regulatory reform across the British Government.
