Birmingham Hall Green (UK Parliament Constituency)
Birmingham Hall Green is a parliamentary constituency in the city of Birmingham, which has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Tahir Ali of the Labour Party. It has become in recent years a Labour safe seat, having the twelfth-largest majority in the UK (by percentage) with a vote share for Labour of 77.6% and majority of 62.5%, as of 2017. This is compared to only a 32.9% share of the vote and 7.8% majority that Labour achieved in 2010. Birmingham Acock's Green (UK Parliament Constituency)
Birmingham Acock's Green was a short-lived constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1950. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Boundaries The County Borough of Birmingham wards of Acock's Green and Hall Green. Before 1945 the area formed part of the Birmingham Moseley constituency. That division had over 100,000 electors and was considered to be overlarge. Fifth Periodic Review Of Westminster Constituencies
The Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies was undertaken between 2000 and 2007 by the four boundary commissions for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for the UK Parliament. The changes for England, Wales and Northern Ireland took effect at the 2010 United Kingdom general election; that for Scotland took effect at the 2005 election. All of the recommendations were approved. Review process The boundary commissions were required at the time by the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 to review constituencies in their part of the United Kingdom every eight to twelve years. The Commissions' recommendations from the review were based on the numbers of electors on the electoral register and ward boundaries at the start of the review in 2000. Sparkhill
Sparkhill is an inner-city area of Birmingham, England, situated between Springfield, Hall Green and Sparkbrook. Historically part of Worcestershire, Sparkhill once existed as a rural area with its main industry being agriculture until the 1880s. History In the Middle Ages, the Sparke family farmed in the area, although it can be posited that Sparkhill takes its name from Spark Brook, a small stream that flows from Moseley to the River Cole in Small Heath. It was, as the name suggests, a hill that was situated alongside the stream. The watercourse can be traced almost entirely along its length from source to where it joins the River Tame, although most of its tributaries are now culverted, and is a popular route for leisure walkers and cyclists. Brandwood (ward)
Brandwood is one of 40 wards which constitute Birmingham City Council and is part of the Birmingham Selly Oak constituency. Prior to May 2010, it was a part of the constituency of Birmingham Hall Green. The ward contains a large number of owner-occupied properties around Howard Road, Wheelers Lane, May Lane, Woodthorpe Road, Featherstone Road, Brandwood Road, Howard Road, Lindsworth Road and Alcester Road South, in addition to two big former council estates around Allenscroft Road and Druids Heath, the latter containing 16 high-rise tower blocks. Billesley is a ward within the council constituency and parliamentary constituency of Selly Oak, Birmingham, England. It is south of the city centre and includes the area of Billesley and much of Yardley Wood as well as the Hollybank Road area of Kings Heath. Springfield, Birmingham
Springfield is a ward (politics), ward in south east Birmingham, England, created in 2004 from much of the old Sparkhill ward. It is a part of the Government of Birmingham, England#Districts, formal district of Hall Green. Places of interest The area is served by the Sparkhill Library that has, with its distinctive clock tower, developed into a local landmark. It was built in 1900 as the council house for the Yardley District Council. The building was converted into a library and opened on 19 January 1923. Sparkbrook
Sparkbrook is an inner-city area in south-east Birmingham, England. It is one of the four wards forming the Hall Green formal district within Birmingham City Council. Etymology The area receives its name from Spark Brook, a small stream that flowed south of the city centre. It was later channelled and partially used for a canal. Politics Sparkbrook ward is represented by two Labour councillors on Birmingham City Council, Mohammed Azim and Shabrana Hussain. Roger Duncan Godsiff (born 28 June 1946) is a British former politician who served as the Labour Member of Parliament (MP) from 1992 to 2019, for the seats of Birmingham Small Heath, Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath, and Birmingham Hall Green.
